What is medical transcription and how you can become a successful professional in the field of medical transcription?

Medical transcription is when you take a previously recorded dictation created by a medical professional regarding a patient or a review of a patient's chart or other test, and listen to it, and type it out onto a computer so it goes from a digital or taped voice to a written format. Most doctors are switching over to doing their own reports using computers and sophisticated software, diminishing the need for transcriptionists. As the years go on, the need for human transcriptionists will be less and less. Also, many hospitals and doctors are sending their tapes as audio files online to groups out of the country, particularly India, where transcription is done very cheaply. Americans can't compete. Transcriptionists get paid by the hour, by the word, or by the page, depending on how their business is set up. Some work in the doctor's office or hospital and some work from home. My suggestion: find another career field! This one has a bleak future.

I think Satheesh you are from India and that is why you do not felt the need of a transcriptionist but in US and other coutries, there is a high demand of medical transcriptionists.
