What is so wrong with our country that no one can spell?

YIKES!
I'll keep this brief, but WHY IS IT THAT NO ONE CAN SPELL CORRECTLY? I mean, I understand if you're typing fast and accidentally miss a letter, writing th instead of the. If you have the occasional typo, fine, no big deal, but how is it that when looking through hubs, or advertisements, or, well, anything, there are so many misspelled words?!?! And this is in the era of spell-check!
I just read an ad on Craigslist that spelled Excellence, Excelance, AND spelled Interested, Intrestead. These are pretty basic words, right? I mean, even if you were writing quickly, wouldn't you glance over what you wrote to make sure you hadn't made any major errors?
I'll get off my high horse shortly, but isn't correct spelling a basic tenant of intelligence? Shouldn't intelligent people be able to accurately spell? Maybe I'm wrong, but as a manager, if I see a misspelled word on an application, I pretty much write the person off. I want the people who work for me to understand basic English and understand basic spelling. Am I the only person who feels this way, or am I by myself out here?

Great examaple Constant...we all get into too big of a hurry. I try!! Still, I miss a few words here and there. I type fast, but my brain is always ahead. I also type in the dark at night, and I don't always catch the errors. Excuses, excuses...lol
Another thing that bugs me, is when some people run twenty sentences together. But, folks, some of the hubbers are on here for fun and communication. So, we have to give them a break and just enjoy their remarks.
I might be one of them, sometimes, too. But, I hear ya. Loved the learning world blocks, Boss.

Well let me say to you all that this problem it´s not exclusive of US, Portuguese people also have that same problem, and no I´m not talking about their English writings :D
My biggest problem with "your" language it´s not so much the misspellings, in fact I´ve more difficulties on English grammar but I guess you can understand me even though :P and if not, well we can start writing in Portuguese! LOL
A fun read. I used to be an English teacher, so I am a bit sensitive to spelling & grammar mistakes.
Speaking of... I hope you don't mind, but you used "tenant" when you should have used "tenet" in your hub. :)
Ha! Of course I don't mind you pointing that out! If I'm going to rag on others, I better expect to be ragged on myself! :) And I tried to be so careful writing this hub, too. Whoops.
Oh, and funride, I'm extremely impressed with your English and your spelling skills. I wish I COULD write to you in Portuguese, but unfortunately, I'm just not that talented!

Nope, you're not alone. I'll overlook one or two as typos, but any more than that and I've lost interest. Along with spell check, one of my sidebar "gadgets" is a dictionay/thesaurus which gets a lot of use.
Al we half to do is simpley look over owr wurk befor publisching. Geez!
