Cloud Computing Defined By Wikipedia

The Cloud Computing Manifesto is a manifesto containing a "public declaration of principles and intentions" for cloud computing providers and vendors[  annotated as "a call to action for the worldwide cloud community" and "dedicated belief that the cloud should be open"] It follows the earlier development of the Cloud Computing Bill of Rights which addresses similar issues from the users' point of viewThe document was developed "by way of an open community consensus process in response to a request by Microsoft that "any 'manifesto' should be created, from its inception, through an open mechanism like a Wiki, for public debate and comment, all available through a Creative Commons license" Accordingly it is hosted on a MediaWiki and licensed under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license.

The original, controversial version of the document called the Open Cloud Manifesto was sharply criticised by Microsoft who "spoke out vehemently against it" for being developed in secret by a "shadowy group of IT industry companies" raising questions about conflicts of interest and resulting in extensive media coverage over the following days.

A pre-announcement commits to the official publication of this document on March 30, 2009 (in spite of calls to publish it earlier) at which time the identities of the signatories ("several of the largest technology companies and organizations" led by IBM along with OMG] and believed also to include Cisco HP] and Sun Microsystems]) is said to be revealed.Amazon,Google, Microsoft and Salesforce are among those known to have rejected the document by declining to be signatories The document was leaked by Geva Perry in a blog post on 27 March 2009 and confirmed to be authentic shortly afterwards.

The authors of both public and private documents have agreed to "work to bring together the best points of each effort

Thinking About Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing turns the internet into one large network of networks. It is a scalable on demand system which runs on distributed servers. The user perspective is that the technology becomes transparant, so that the collaboration between people is what is the user focus and the systems and database management is taken care of behind a cloud.

The collaboration of the technology vendors creates the cloud computing infrastructure, combined with open source and public licensing of software systems which gives access to start up companies and social groups.

What Is Cloud Computing?

A Free Trial of Force.com

I've taken the decision to evaluate the salesforce.com version of cloud computing which has the option of a free trial account. The model gives users access to an appication development platform and pre existing applications for specific tasks.

Once I created and verified my acount with force.com the process of selecting applications is easy.I've selected the Lucidity Lead Model as the app to assess for this hub as it coincides with an interest I have with marketing processes. The video training from you tube is included in this hub to give you an idea of what is available.

The process of selecting the application includes a form which in effect generates a lead for lucidity. I'm now in their marketing funnel and will comment on that at a later date.(2/7/2009)
