What is the Importance of Wood Preserver?
61
If you have a nice house, it would not pay off to just erect it and then leave it on its own. It really is necessary to look after the entire structure, since it is not simply a house for you. It is a home for you and your family.
If you have used wood for building your house, you need to take better care of it. If you just leave it unattended, there might be problems like dampness and pests to face later on. You might have used wood for construction, ornamentation or in erecting frames, and therefore protecting wooden materials is of very high importance. The best way to do this is to apply wood preserver.
- Wood preserver is a material used for the treatment of wood where it is applied all over the wooden material. This can be done during the time of construction or after you have finished building the property, but this is a work that you must never forget. This treatment will actually protect your wood from weathering and decaying because of woodworm, wet rot and dry rot.
- Recently, to help save the environment, the manufacturers have taken extra precaution to use less of toxic materials in these chemical treatments. Since they use mostly natural products, these wood preservers are not exactly strong in keeping the infestations away. But they do yield some benefits.
- You can use Tung oil or linseed oil for the same purpose, though you can use other forms of treatment to keep your wood safe.
- You can go for the heat treatment, where the timber is heated to a particular temperature before use. Though this helps to keep the woodworm and dry rot out of the way, it will alter the look of the timber.
- Or you can simply go all natural by using the special kind of wood that is originally rot resistant. But this kind of timber is very expensive, plus, they are often endangered since they are harvested quickly and quiet aggressively. It is debatable whether these types of timber actually cause more harm to the environment than the chemical preservatives.
- When the wood preserver is applied to the timber, it breaks down the nutrients in the timber that resists incursion of pests, like woodworm and dry rot. When applied with some other preservatives, this wood treatment can have a strong effect.
You need to be very careful while you are applying a wood preserver for woodworm treatment, for you certainly want your home to look nice and cozy, but also stay that way forever. After all, your home should house your family, not rots and worms, right?
