What is the Writer's Purpose
The writer's purpose is to convey information and ideas that persuade or inform. The written word; however, unlike the spoken word is indelible and is there forever in print. As a mere form of communication, with the usefulness of technology, writing has gone to a whole new level. Now writers are assembling on the same subject matter to voice their opinions and ideas on blogs and online internet sites.
Writing is used mostly for legal communication because the spoken word no longer holds the honor that it use to in days gone by. Now the parties in a dispute have to have a written contract to seal an agreement for the matter to hold up in court. On the more casual side of writing, the written word can be used to inspire others as well as to get opinions on an idea to the other person in the form of writing.
The writer's purpose is to follow through with the introduction or subject of the writing. All of the important quesions must be answered to fully supply answers to the subject or topic. By answering the questions, who, what, where, why, how, and when, the author can easily answer questions on the topic of interest.
There is a different type of written communication when the internet or online method of writing is used. Because of the search engines that provide information with a key word, the writing must be more specific. The internet community search is not literature where metaphors and similes are used to describe a thought, thing, idea or feeling. The internet community have to be spoken to in a conversational manner to get the message through to internet surfers for information.
Because of the absence of colorful specific words used for descriptions, the writer must use images or videos to further explain the topic or subject. The writer's purpose is enhanced with the use of relevant images and video to convey the idea and to remain on topic. An off topic image or video would defeat the purpose of the writer's subject and purpose.
The writer's purpose is to talk to the reader in a tone and with words that are understandable. It has been said that most people read on the third grade level and print media use words that are easily understood to increase subscriptions. Unless a personal journal of some sort is being written, it is a good idea to keep the words simple and to the point.
The writer's ultimate goal is to attract readership or the writing would be in the form of a personal diary or personal journal. To attract readership the topic of interest must have a relevant audience and the subject must be interesting and informative. The writing should have a topic, an introduction, a body and a summary. The three paragraph format that was taught in grade school is still prevalent today and still works for the understanding of the reader.
To affect the writer to reader interchange, the writer needs to do the research and then present the information in the channel that the writing is geared to. For example, a novel with main characters, a setting and a plot should be written using the literary methods that is appropriate. It will be alright to use the metaphors and the similes as colorful language to decribe what you are writing about. However, if the writing is a blog or written on a writing website, the tone needs to be more conversational. The conversational tone will not only garnish readership but will also give the writer much needed feedback. The feedback or comments as the online community calls opinions about a writer's work helps to let the writer know whether the idea is being undersood for its intended audience.

Thank you for answering my request with this very interesting essay. I particularly like the observation about the spoken word and its deterioration as a medium of binding terms.
