What is the best area to live in New York City?
69What really is the "best place" to live in New York? To be completely honest with you I would have to customize this answer to your specific liking, and you may think "how can I do that". Well quite simply I think I can give you a pretty good list of things to look for and you can see for yourself if you could find the perfect place for you.
Lets start with a tour of New York. After all if you don't know what your surroundings will look like then you probably can't make a good decision about what area would suit your visual tastes. Take a stroll around New York right now. No, No don't bother getting up! Let me take you on a Virtual Tour.
Hmm, now what? Maybe you should think about your budget and see what some of the cost of living is for people with different budgets and areas.
Subsidized Grad student (income $20k)
Junior Professional (income $50k)
Mid-Career Fundraiser (income $150k)
Expense account I-Banker (Income $700k)
The Trader (income over $1M)
When it comes to renting in New York, I would love to find you specific information about the costs, but unfortunately it seems to vary so greatly from one building to the next. My suggestion is to do some apartment deal shopping when you have decided which areas you want to live in.
Now let's see how different areas in New York compare in terms of crime statistics. After all a big scary city isn't so big and scary if you know where the safer places are, although New York is in fact today safer than it used to be. Here is a crime statistics map which shows you how many crimes were committed in each precinct last year. Very useful for finding your ideal and safe area of New York.
