What is the best book you have read in 2007?
52The best book I've read this year involves a shepherd on a quest to find a treasure. I am talking about "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. A book I had been meaning to read, but only got around to doing so this past summer. I had read several reviews on this book, but I was still unaware of what a beautiful story it is.
I found myself reviewing my life goals, sadly identifying with the crystal shop owner who is content with only dreaming but not really following through. What a terrible thing to die yearning! It inadvertently forces one to look within to find the answers, even if it means going back to where we started. I am not one to cry, but there is a passage where Santiago is describing his love for Fatima that is just amazing! The book is a real gem. "Veronika Decides To Die" is next on my list, by the same author.PrintShare it! — Rate it: up down flag this hub

I'm presently reading a book entitled "Case Histories." It is very well written. It's about a former police office, now a detective, who is asked to solve a kidnapping case.
The detective isn't introduced until the fourth chapter. The writing is exceptional, capturing the psychology of each character with precision. The author was the winner of the Whitebread book of the year award for a previous book, her first.
The best to you.

I read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho many years ago and I loved it.
This year by the same author I read "A orillas del rio piedra me sente y lloré" y "La bruja de Portobello". Both very inspiring. However it has been "A orillas del rio piedra..." the book that I found most influencing in my life this year. A story about love and freedom to love without fear.
