What is the difference between a screenplay and a script? WHat are the specifics on how to write one and get it into...

I love writing dialogue and I have actually learned the difference between these two things. It helps that my husband has a BA in Cinema. A screenplay is the road map or basic layout and ideas for a movie. If you were to adapt a book to a movie format you would have to shorten the story line to three main parts, 1 beg 2 climax, 3 finale. A script consists of actual dialogue the actors will memorize and perform. A screenplay will have dialogue but it is not a final product. Instead, a screenplay describes scenes background information and motivation. The best guide would be a How-To book. Remember the only people that fail are the ones that never try. Good Luck!

Thank you both for the response. I'll have to check into the how-to books. I'm sure there's a dummies series book for script writing. But how do you get to the point of selling your script?

If you want to be technical, a script is the manuscript of a tv program or movie and a screenplay is the actual program or movie. I have been writing scripts for over 15+ years and no one has ever asked for a screenplay...it's always a script. My friends ask for screenplays, agents and producers and directors has for scripts. Just thought I'd throwing my experience in.
