What is the difference between amino acids and proteins?
65
The amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Its like many bricks combining to form a wall.Bricks are the amino acids and wall formed is the protein.
The general formula of an amino acid is R-CH-COOH
|
NH2
When two amino acids combine together,(-NH2 group combines with -COOH group) a peptide linkage is formed.
Numerous amino acids combine together to form a polypeptide.
Many polypeptides join to form a protein.
Protein is essentially a polypeptide chain.
Ther are basically 20 amino acids which combine in different arrangement to form different proteins.
Some of the amino acids are glycine,alanine,valine,isoleucine,leucine,lysine,phenylalanine,threonine,trypthophan,etc...........
