The meaning of christmas

Christmas, Oh what a wonderful time if year! But really how many people out there know the true meaning of Christmas?. I do not know what people think or think they know about the meaning of Christmas.

These days most people only want gifts and food. This is not what Christmas is about.

When I was younger My family did not have a tree or gifts. We had each other and a simple dinner. We were happy just to be with each other at this time of year. We had whatever there was in the fridge and cupboards. I know that most families had turkey or ham, They also had a tree and gifts. I was so mad that every one else had these things. That year my grandpa sat me down and told me a story that I had never heard before. I am not a religious person but the story was about a baby that was boren in a manger on Christmas eve.

The word Christmas comes from the word Christ. (the first part of the word) This baby was boren to two people who did not have much to give,But the gift that the lord had given to Mary. This tiny baby was to show the people the way to the right path. Now with this said Christmas is celebrated because of the birth of this baby. Now the sad part to this story is that the baby became a man and died at the very hands that he was to show to the right path. So every year we celebrate Christmas due to the birth of Jesus.

Now the true meaning of Christmas to me is no matter how much money you make or don't make you can always have a good holiday as long as you are with the ones you love and cherish the most.

Children need to learn this as they figure Christmas is just about toys and stuff you get from Santa! This is a good part for children but I feel they should know the story behnde Christmas and how it became this way.

What a great hub and so glad that you wrote it! I think the true meaning of Christmas, Christ, is often lost in all the glory of gifts and Santa Clause.
