60My Worst Experience in A South African Branded Hotel Group
In South Africa we have many sites to complain to or give bouquets for good service but never have I had the joy to share one of my many, recent, bad experiences in one of these Hotels with my international colleagues.
How to begin? The City Lodge Group is a large Branded Hotel consortium in South Africa. I am not aware of any international affiliations, if they exist.
I belong to their Lodger Club that gives me added advantages as to other clients. However, recently I discovered that they had changed their policies concerning Master Cards and other forms of online payments as well as the lack of knowledge of Discounted lifestyles they offer their guests.
Their prices have become astronomical. You find that when requiring assistance they only have uneducated clerical employees on duty. You always have to wait for the following week for the Genral Manager to return to work before a problem may be sorted out.
They recently sent me a survey requesting my opinion on their services. You can imagine my reply.
To summarize - My problem is with the whole group. Their total and general service is absolutely appalling. As to promoting the group locally and internationally? Not until I have experienced a major change in both attitude and services will I ever utter the words "City Lodge Group" on my lips ever again.

Worst experience? It hurts to think of it, still.
My adult daughter and I were driving from Conneticut to Missouri and had left Hartford at 5:00 PM after a busy day of loading boxes in her car. About midnight, in the rain, somewhere in Pennsylvania we hit detours and missed our highway. Sitting in the middle of the highway at a blockade -remember midnight in the country - we were trying to find our place on the map. A lady police officer stopped to investigate -there had been NO other traffic- and she kindly told us to follow her through the construction maze back to Scranton, PA which was about three miles. We approached a motel, and paid for a room for the night -the last one available. Upon entering the room, the first thing we saw was a HUGE black semi-repaired hole in the ceiling over the beds. Then a large area of dried out soap on the bathroom counter. Worn out and dismayed, we chose to remain, to try to get some sleep for next day's continued journey. Then as we pulled down the sheets to hop in bed, there was a long black hair on the pillow - and we are short-haired and blond. We both had horrific thoughts, attitudes, and were nearly to tears with fatigue and disgust but finally twisted bedding around and crawled in. It took about eight months for my daughter's insistent letters to get part of our money repaid by the motel. Want to call someone 'bad'? We just say "Scranton! P.S. Sorry, Scranton, I know you are NOT all that way.
