My all time favorite Christmas song is I'll be home for Christmas.  There are several reasons that this song holds special meaning to me- some new; some old.

For one, the song is just plain beautiful.  The words to it just touch my heart.

"I'll be home for Christmas.  You can plan on me. 

We'll have snow and mistletoe and presents under the tree.

Christmas Eve will find me where the love light gleams.

I'll be home for Christmas- if only in my dreams."

For many years, beginning when I was about twelve. my older brother was gone to the military, and every year, I would wish that he was home.  I would be so disappointed when I would get up on Christmas morning, and he was not there.  I think that was around the time that I became familiar with this song.  

From then on, I would always think that he wanted to come home, but since he couldn't he would be somewhere dreaming that he was here. Just feeling that he wanted to be here gave me a sense of comfort.

Another reason that I love this song is because I am staying with my parents this year.  I love them dearly, but I have somewhere else that I would rather be.  If you read any of my earlier hubs, you would know that I have been going through some things that have kept me away from a person that I love very much.  I consider my home to be where he is.  Just knowing that I will not be able to spend my Christmas with him this year is heartbreaking, but I want him to be assured that "I'll be home for Christmas- if only in my dreams".
