What is your idea of the perfect retiremtnt?
46If you ask a hundred people what their idea of the prefect retirement you will most likely get a hundred different answers. Some common threads might be having enough money to travel and good health. Others might include a reasonable retirement income so you can start a new type of career or even start a small business. You might even just want to take a few years off any kind of work to pursue hobbies you never had the time to work on during you pre-retirement years.
I think there is no universally accepted "perfect retirement". I would love to see at least 100 comments telling me what people consider their idea of a perfect retirement would be.

robie2, I loved your comment. I have often thought that retirement only referred to no longer needing to spend your waking hours at a job you probably don't like. Retirement is what you can do with your life once you no longer must work to receive the finances you need just to survive in life.
Btw..My wife read your comment and loved it , especially the part about you liking my hat. May your after work life be filled with doing the things you like or love doing and not with the need to work for pay.
Hello Light Path,
You are right, there are just as many answers as there are people. My idea certainly includes the ones you mention, money, good health.
I would pursue my time reading the kazillion books I have amassed, taking short trips to nearby states, as well as my own (NJ). Definitely adopt a dog. I miss my dogs, but due to working two jobs, I have no time to care for one properly. But, I have my lovely cats, and they bring me pleasure. I would also look into taking dancing classes. Things I used to know how to do such as the tango, etc. It would be a good outlet, getting much needed exercise and meeting people.
I could probably go on and on here, but those are a few things I'd enjoy.
Thanks for asking!
Patty
I'm happier than I have ever been, I think, and I have a much better idea of who I am than I did when I was younger. I no longer suffer fools gladly, if you know what I mean. On top of that, my children are grown and on their own and actually turn out to be very nice people. This getting older stuff is great--too bad it will have to end somedayLOL The hat is very cool and your wife has good taste in comments:-)
trish1048 thanks for you comment and your thoughts on retirement...I have a feeling you will begin to really live once you do retire
robie2...I can tell you are loving every moment your retirement...for you didn't retire from life just retired from the drudgery of working to live. Your right my wife does have great tastes not only in hats and fine comments... but I like to think has an exceptional outlook on life in general... not to mention good taste in husbands
Thanks Light Path, I'd like to think I'll have a great retirement from work. I probably would also get back to doing volunteer work, which I had done for about a year with a program called 'Pet Therapy'. It was very rewarding.
thanks again for the hub, always enjoy hearing from you.
Patty
I am still working on this topic.

Hi Light Path--I hate the word retirement because it infers lessening involvement with life and my experience has been just the opposite. I worked hard for many years, often at jobs I didn't like much, so now, thanks to Uncle Sam and my nest egg I can do what I want and find myself more engaged with more people and more things than I was when I was in the work force. I have a small part time job, belong to a writer's group, am working on that novel I was always going to write, tend my small garden, take long walks and just smell the roses. The internet has made so many more things possible and leveled the playing field for people of all ages and in all places. Life is sweet--BTW I love your hat:-)
