What musicians have influenced you? Who has changed your life?
61My husband has been playing guitar for the past 21 years. I have learned to play the bass over the past 4. Together, we write, produce & engineer our own music. There are a variety of great musicians and some of them have influenced our style.
Randy Rhoads is the biggest influence in my husband's guitar playing. Randy was the guitarist for Ozzy. He was also part of Quiet Riot. Randy had the 3 things you need to be great; creativity, spirituality and technique. His signature guitar was the polka dot flying v. Randy died in his twenties in a plane crash.
Zakk Wylde joined Ozzy after Jake E Lee & it was like seeing Randy all over again. Zakk looks like a rough biker, but his music is that of an angel. His piano skills are just as refined as his guitar chops. Zakk can also cover Randy to the exact note.
One of the ultimate musicians in my eyes is Geddy Lee from Rush. He went to school and has his doctorate in music theory. Geddy plays the bass, keyboard, and does the vocals. Rush has such a unique sound and the group of 3 make for a consistent, well played band.
The best guitarists that are playing today is Joe Satriani, Steve Vai & John Petrucci. These 3 are the most creative and clean and original guitarists. They even do tours called G3 together. If you have an appreciation for guitar, you will love these men and their bands.
I believe there are many beautiful musicians and they will always keep coming up in the years. The best way to grow and get better is to learn from others. Sharing what you know and picking up what others know is how you become one of the greats.
