Ironically, I already wrote a short article about writing for Suite101 on my freelance writing site, though that was more about how to apply and what is required as opposed to what kind of money can be made. So here I will add some more details to answer this Hub request.

The answer is: it depends. Ok, lousy answer but unfortunately it's very true. I am a writer for Suite and I personally know of people who make $100/month or more and I know people who would have to save up for a few months to buy a cup of coffee.

It comes down to several variable factors. If you only do the minimum writing requirements, you are going to earn less and the pay will increase only very slowly from month to month. You earn money from Suite as a portion of ad revenue from the Google ads, so the more pages you have the better. If you really put the effort in and do a dozen or more articles each month, you will see income faster than if you only do 4 per month.

The other factor that is a bit out of your control is the nature of the ads available for clicking. If the topic you are writing about is popular, hot or very product-oriented, there will be lots of high-paying ads. Something like cell phones, for example. This translates into more money for you. But if you choose a less popular topic that just doesn't equal good advertising opportunities (like ancient medieval history or something), then you are going to have more difficulty no matter how many pages you produce.

I can't answer with a dollar figure, but I can say with certainty that there is decent money available if you choose to try writing for Suite101. Just don't expect it within the first few months. I've been doing it for about a year and only just now seeing ok money each month.

Thank you for bringing details about this additional opportunity to hubpages!

Thanks. I guess if you select topics based on potential ad revenue by researching keyword popularity and Adwords bid pricing you can stack the odds in your favor.

Yep, a good practice for any online writing, including here at Hubpages.

Terri, how would you compare Suite.101 earnings with HubPages? About the same income for the same effort? Or more? Or less?

It's hard to compare. It really depends on the topics you are writing for. I've heard of people making great money here at Hubpages but I am still fairly new. I think they are comparible really. I guess Suite may offer more income as the network is a bit more structured and the quality is more closely monitored, and that leads to more regular traffic.

I gave up on Suite 101 because the format is very restrictive and they allow max 600 words.

My specialty is skin care, so I should have had plenty of Google adds, but all of them were "off topic"
