Internet Network Marketing and Chicken Nuggets? What the 911 Chicken Nugget Lady Has to Teach Us
66Internet Network Marketing and Chicken Nuggets?
I’m sure we’ve all heard about the woman who called 911 (not once but three times) because she couldn’t get her money back from the McDonalds cashier. Believe it or not, that woman has a valuable lesson to teach everyone doing internet network marketing.
Here is the story. She paid for chicken nuggets and then was told they didn’t have that item available. For some reason, the cashier wouldn’t give her a refund and insisted she order another item from the menu.
You’ve probably heard the 911 calls (in case you didn't, see the video below). As it turns out the woman was arrested for improper use of 911.
The obvious lesson is not to call 911 unless it is a real emergency.
But there is another lesson in this story and, as an internet network marketer, it is one that really resonated with me.
The lesson is this.
People desperately want someone to provide them with solutions for their problems.
This woman could have figured out for herself that there were other options other than calling 911. She could have asked to speak to a manager, or waited for the nuggets to get cooked, or helped the cashier figure out how to give her change, or asked someone else in line for advice, and so on.
But she just wanted someone to come and help her solve her problems.
And as internet network marketing professionals, we have to realize that the people we are trying to connect with want the same thing. They want someone to help them create the extra income they need so they can have financial security, peace of mind, time for their families, etc…
They want someone who can show them how to achieve these things, not just promise that they will.
As an internet network marketing professional, your role is to become a solutions provider. You will attract people to you by showing that you: 1) understand their needs, wants, desires, challenges, frustrations, etc… 2) have tangible solutions that will help them reach their goals and overcome their challenges; and 3) are a real person who will personally assist them in their journey.
In today’s economy, people are feeling scared and anxious. Maybe a little irrational (or in some Mcases, extremely irrational). You can help them and your business at the same time by learning how to position yourself as a solutions provider.
If you don't know how to do that, then your first step is to read some free ebooks by Ann Sieg:
The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing
The Attraction Marketer's Manifesto
Both are invaluable reads.
Your next step is to connect with a great internet network marketing training program to help you accelerate your learning curve and avoid running down a bunch of rabbit holes.
And finally, you want to connect with a personal mentor who can help guide and support you. That person might be within your company, they might be part of your internet marketing training program, or they might be someone you meet online.
Take the steps needed to move your internet network marketing business forward and help others at the same time. McDonalds workers everywhere will thank you:)

yes very interesting read. so what happened next to the mcnugget lady? :D
Cindy,
I heard this tonight on a television news program and couldn't believe it! What a great connection to Attraction Marketing. At first I thought it was ridiculous that she did that but after reading this I at least have a better angle on the story - she was looking for a solution and no one was listening so she did what she felt she had to do to get someone to help her solve her problem. Very good analogy!
Cindy:
That's a great analogy. It made me think of the many times I didn't want to do something because there was nobody to show me the way. If we can be solutions providers and really deliver on our promise, we will develop a loyal following - true attraction marketing. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers! C Doug Mah
My initial reaction was how the heck does this tie in with internet marketing?! You made a great analogy and did a great job tying it al together. You offer some excellent tips.
To your $uccess,
Irene
thanks for the feedback - I appreciate you sharing your perspectives. As for the chicken nugget lady, she was arrested for misusing 911. This story has been all over the news. Would you believe the video in this article had over 5800 views in one day. It's one of those amazing but true stories I couldn't get out of my head,
Cindy, you have such a great point here. One that I certainly missed, I just saw the video and said "you have to be kidding me." Anyway one thing that I have learned over the years of owning a store front is that you must always provide your customer with a solution that meets THEIR needs. ALWAYS If you don't just the word of mouth will kill your business. And, I am sure that the McDonalds in question is going to feel the pinch of all this negative publicity.
We do have a responsibility to our potential partners to be open and honest with them. Times are hard and more and more people want and need a quick solution. Unfortunately, network marketing is definitely a solution but it isn't quick.
Thanks again for sharing
Angela
You are so right. I have been trying to make money on the internet for 7 years by trying different get rich quick schemes, blogs, etc. I have read a lot about how to attract people but I just don't get it. Don't know what else I can do.
Great point Angela - very well said.

Rhea
Well Cindy you've done it again for us, making such a creative hub for us to learn from and enjoy. A great read and all good advice.
Hey Cindy, It just goes to show you how people can do such crazy things when they don't get what they want. Sometimes everyday life gets so fustrating to people they don't think straight.
Thanks Rhea and Bill. You are so right Rick. I think I had a moment like that myself yesterday after being home with 2 sick kids for too long - LOL! Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comments.I appreciate it!
What a nice article, thank you for some entertainment to the information. Thanks, Jan
Wow, Cindy! I never would have connected this story to Attraction Marketing. But you're right... she had a problem and couldn't find a solution. She needed someone to offer her a solution... kinda like the desperate prospect that says, "just tell me what to do and I'll do it."
Network marketers everywhere are looking for a trusted advisor to show them how to be successful. Thanks for the creative insight.

Cindy, I just read your hub and was both amused and curious as to the outcome of that woman's plight. How clever of you to take a situation in the news and equate it with internet network marketing. When people are in a jam, they want solutions, not more frustration, no matter what the problem. Well done!
Sarah
I believe that this woman's sentiments were nicely summed up back in 1991 in the song, "911 is a Joke" by Public Enemy, conveniently available for your review here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcKhscio25M
