Heading Off to College

So you've just finished your senior year of a high school and you're going to be going to a four year college in the Fall.  For most of you this is going to be your first time living on your own.  I'm sure you're feeling equally scared and excited, but there's really nothing to fear.  Going to college is a great experience, and I'm sure you will enjoy it even more than high school!! That's not to say you shouldn't head off unprepared.  To make the transition from high school to college as smooth as possible it's important to bring the right supplies, and this article will show you just how to do that!

Living in the Dorms - What to Bring to College for a Great Dorm Experience

Dorm living is a new and sometimes stressful experience for many incoming college freshman. Living with a large amount of other people in cramped quarters can be straining, but also quite fun! You will make tons of new friends, interact in a new and diverse environment, and meet exciting new people. Dorm living is not something to fret, but a fun part of the college experience to be embraced!  However, it is important not to rely on these new relationships too much.  You will begin to lose friends if they see you as a mooch, and rightfully so.  It is important to be self relient, and by knowing what to bring to college will ensure that you bring what is needed to sustain yourself comfortably and happily.

Here's a list of some possible necessities for college living:

School Supplies

Don't think that just because you're heading off to college you don't need to do any more homework! Your college workload will likely be greater than that in high school, so it's important to bring the following school supplies to college.

  • Lined notebook paper
  • Pens and pencils
  • Hilighters
  • Sharpie Markers
  • Binders (for taking and storing notes!)
  • Stapler and staples
  • Ruler
  • Three-hole Punch

Electronics

Nowadays, electronic devices are almost a necessity at any college.  It's important to keep up on the latest gear so that you don't get left behind.  Remember all of your chargers!!

  • Cell phone
  • Camera for uploading pics to Facebook
  • Laptop Computer
  • Printer with ink
  • iPod or another mp3 player

Dorm Necessities

Dorms are crowded and dirty places.  To keep clean and comfortable you will need to bring the right tools, utensils, and cleaners to college.  The following list is stuff that you could probably live without, but not before ticking off the health department.

  • Towells
  • Pillows
  • Extra sheets and pillow cases
  • Lightbulbs
  • Shower flipflops!!
  • Wet wipes
  • Toiletries (ie. toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.)
  • Clothes (Indie Clothing!)
  • Thumbtacks
  • Posters
  • Duct Tape

Have A Great First Year at College!

Well that about concludes it folks, my opinion as a college sophomore of what a freshman needs to bring to college.  Have fun shopping for college stuff!
