Gift Gifting for Older Kids at Christmas

I thought this year, with two older kids at home, what would be a couple of good ideas for gifts this Christmas. One is 23, the other is 18.

I have two younger ones as well, and they were naturally much easier to shop for.

Here are some gift ideas for anyone having a hard time like me, without breaking your budget too badly.

Gift Cards

An 18 year old girl is probably going to appreciate it much more if she receives a gift card to her favorite shoe store or clothing store, than if you attempt to pick out what you think they will like. Throw in a great place like Claire's for cute jewelry.

A single 23 year old probably has interests out there that include hobbies like my own son does. He dates here and there, and a few gift cards to places like Applebee's and even the nearest Cinema makes for a fun night out, either alone or with a new significant other.

Novelty Stores

Another fun place to shop is at places where gifts are unusual. My daughter is just nuts for Jack and Sally of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Hot Topix has everything from house shoes to earrings with her favorite characters on it.

Spencer's is another good place to shop. My kids like the cool lamps, black lights, posters, gag gifts, etc..they offer.

Money - why not?

I know to many it seems kind of impersonal, but it was the number one request from my kids. I decided to buy lots of different shaped boxes..I mean LOTS of them, and put ones, fives and tens in them. That way they have something to open, but are still getting what they asked for. Trust me, it's going to be appreciated!

I am like a lot of people. I don't have a great amount of money to just throw around during the holidays. I try not to waste money on things I 'hope' they will like. Much better to get a few you know they will love.

Merry Christmas!
