What to do with old coffee cup sleeves

Do you drink a lot of hot coffee and find yourself unable to part with the fancy little sleeves that go around the outside of the cup?

Here are some practical and fun ideas you might want to try:

  • Adhere tape or glue something solid to close the bottom of the sleeve and store paper clips, pens or other small office supplies.
  • Use coffee cup sleeves as a message area. Stick post-it notes around the outside for use as needed. This design can also be used as a family message center so that everyone knows where they can leave a note.
  • Use coffee cup sleeves to store nails or nuts and bolts in the shop or garage.
  • You can also clip different types of clips around the outside of the sleeve to utilize that available space.
  • Attach several together stacking them on top of each other to make a longer organizer for small tools that have a handle.
  • Tack several sleeves on corkboard or paperboard on a wall say in your cubicle at work. Be creative and change the design frequently to create interest.

You could use this design on a wall above a desk as well. The design lets people know who sells your favorite coffee. Maybe someone will buy you a cup!

  • Place sleeves on all sides of your car or other precious cargo to protect from harm.

This design is a good way to advertise for your favorite coffee shop and is not to be taken literally.

  • Sleeves can be decorated by children in preschool or Bible school class. Age limit is not required.
  • Make a tiny hat to show your sense of humor at get-togethers with friends.

Whatever you decide to do with the collected coffee cup sleeves, know that you are showing your creativity letting the world know there are practical and fun ways to recycle the sleeves from your favorite cup of joe.

Hi,

Another thing you could do with the coffee cup sleeves is to store Christmas ornaments in them - the sleeve would act as a bumper to keep ornaments from hitting each other or rolling around.  I would wrap each ornament in tissue or bubble wrap too, if it is much smaller than the opened sleeve.  This would take up unused space.  These would also be helpful as a bumper when packing glasses or cups.  Another "coffee" item that I seem to accumulate often, the cardboard 4-cup tray, would suit this purpose also.  Otherwise, when I have a stack of them at my office, I just return them to the coffee shop and they reuse them.

I'm all for recycling, and I'm glad people are finding ways to re-use things. I don't drink a lot of coffee. if I do it's at home. Rinse the cup.

I try to go without the sleeve. In Seattle, Tully's offers compostable cups and sleeves, so I compost those. Most of the time, though, I try to take my lovely, reusable cup: no waste.

If you use CoolCorC cup sleeves then you can compost them or make them into cork boards. If you use a piece of cardboard as backing for the cork board then you don't need as many sleeves to make it. I've glued them to my chair's feet to keep them from scratching the floor too.
