Things to look for when you purchase a Guinea Pig

So you have finally broken down and decided to purchase a Guinea Pig. So you head down to your local pet store. See a really cute fella and say I will take that one.

The clerk takes it out of the cage puts it in a box and you go on your merry way back to your home.

What is wrong with this story?

Putting the Guinea Pig in a box?

Taking it home?

No the thing that is wrong is that you did not inspect your Guinea Pig before you purchased it.

Do not rely on the pet store to give you a 100% healthy Guinea Pig.

Don't be afraid to ask questions and physically inspect your Guinea Pig before you decide to buy.

Look at it's eyes are they clear? Look at it's ears are they clean? Look at it's nails are they straight or have they started to curl? Look at it's teeth. Are they exceptionally long?

Any of the above things can mean your Guinea Pig may not be as healthy as it appears.
