Accent rugs are a quick, easy way to add a splash of color and style to any room in your house. They are available in a variety of prices, colors, and sizes, so whatever your flooring needs are, you will be able to find the right rug for you.

The entry way is one of the best places in your house to use an accent rug to make a big impact. It doesn't have to cost the earth there are plenty of cheap accent rugs availale on the market.  As guests enter your home, the entry can set the tone for the rest of the house. Consider starting with an accent rug and decorating the rest of your entry around the rug so that the colors and accessories will match perfectly. Alternately, if you already have an item you love in your entry, consider using it as a starting point in your search for the rug that will compliment it and unify the space. Choose a rug made of a good material for your climate; polypropylene or olefin is sturdy enough for most entries, but you could consider a Waterhog mat if your entry sees high traffic and you experience rough weather. In addition to the decorative benefits of an accent rug in the entry, it will also help to keep the floor in the area and therefore your entire house clean.

Accent rugs are perfect for entries, but they also work well in living areas. While an area rug can help define a large space, accent area rugs can help transition between spaces, or define a smaller space in a larger room. Consider an accent rug to establish a small conversation area or highlight a unique piece of furniture. A sturdy accent rug can provide a stylish way to protect floors inside of french doors in living areas and bedrooms.

The hallway is another excellent spot for home accent rugs. If you have a special picture group, consider an accent rug on the floor in front of it to draw people to appreciate your grouping. Also, if you have a laundry area off of your hallway, consider an accent rug in front of the laundry area. Many homes have a reading nook or landing above a two story living room; an accent rug is a great way to define this space as usable square footage instead of wasted hallway space.

The bathroom is another often overlooked space that can benefit from accent rugs. Today's rugs are made of sturdy materials that stand up to moisture and repeated cleaning. In order to add style and class to your bathroom, consider replacing your bath mats with small rugs. This small space can be easily upgraded with this easy change. Just like the entry, you can use the rug as a starting point for decor.  Similarly you can use kitchen accent rugs to add a bit of colour and contrast in one of the rooms in the house that tends to be a bit bland.  Why not give it a try?

Kids' rooms are also a perfect spot for round accent rugs. Both bedrooms and playrooms often have multiple functional spaces in the same room, and small rugs can help define the spaces. One rug can be for a reading space, another for toys, and another for games. Kids can have fun helping to choose the rugs and the rugs can help keep what could be a chaotic space organized and tidy.

Accent rugs are a great option for many of the rooms in your house, so consider how you can use these small items to make a big change soon.
