Consumers nowadays have a wide choice of shampoos and conditioners, with additive ranging from extracts of vitamins, herbs, olive oil, avocado oil, aloe vera, a variety of perfumes chemicals and colorings. Few of these do much good since hair shaft are not living tissue, and the best advise is probably to use a mild shampoo that will not dry out your scalp excessively. Baby shampoo is best, or look for a shampoo that has a pH value of 5- close to the natural acidity, like Forever Living Product Shampoo.

Conditioner are usually made of oils and waxes that are not water soluble and that leave a coating on your hair after rinsing. Applying a conditioner after shampooing will make your hair shine, stabilize the acidity and add body. However, the effects of added shine and body are only temporary and superficial, hair is dead and cannot be repaired or revitalized. Eventhough conditioners offer some protection from damage by smoothing down the outer layer, or cuticle, sealing in moisture and filtering ultraviolet rays.
