If you know your child has been drinking

If your child is ever caught drinking it is really important that you talk to them about it.When you do though do not yell or raise your voice. You want your child to know that you are there for them and you want to help them stop.Be sure to ask them why they were drinking and if they have done it before. But remember, every teenager will experiment with alcohol, just because they are caught once does not mean it is a habit. But you should talk to them to make sure it won't become a habit.Make it very clear how you feel about them drinking. And the consequences of drinking. If you believe it is their first time they have ever drank, do not ground them. But make sure you tell them what will happen if they ever get caught again. If they have drank before, and they seem like they will more than likely do it again whether they say they will or not, that is when you ground them. What you ground them from is your decision. If after you ground them they still drink, that is when you get professional help.Maybe a school counseler.Or take them to an achoholics annonymous class, just so they can see what damages drinking can do to your life. That always seems to work.I hope this helps.

Right. I am in highschool, and 50% of the males there are on JUST this side of being an alcoholic.

But I do agree that because they get caught once doesn't mean that they are drinking a lot.

There were good intentions here, but this is stupid. Teenagers drinking even after being caught multiple times does not necessitat alcoholism- it just means they like to get drunk with their friends more than they like whatever they get grounded from. Taking them to an AA meeting is fine, but you made it sound like that is what happens to anyone who drinks alcohol. I'd like to remind you that responsible consumption is possible.
