What are remedies for morning sickness?
58Oh, I have so been there. And for me, "morning sickness" was misleading. I was sick morning, noon, and night!
Here's what I did: I ate something. It may be the only time in my life that eating cured nausea, but I'm really grateful it worked! At first I was skeptical about this solution, but I swear eating did make the nausea go away.
The saltine crackers first thing in the morning helped a lot -- I used to keep them right by the bed, which was risky, because there was always a chance my beagle would eat them during the night!
Also, I didn't eat things that, when suggested, made me feel worse. If I didn't think I'd be able to keep it down, I didn't even try to eat it. For some reason, meat was hard for me to consume while I had morning sickness -- and I am an avowed omnivore! But then I discovered that I could eat -- and keep down -- McDonald's! My poor husband, who is not a McDonald's fan (nor am I, when I'm not pregnant), was making late night runs to the drive-through for me, as well as being forced to eat there with me four or five nights a week.
I found that sour things also worked. The old wives' advice to "suck on a lemon" was actually very sound. Salty food worked well, too, and for months I was never far away from a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips -- salty and sour!
Big meals were also hard -- I found I did better with a lot of regular noshing rather than the three typical meals a day. I guess whatever it was that gave me morning sickness was diminished with a more steady supply of little bits of food.
If your morning sickness is really bad, of course, or if it goes on much past the fourth month, make sure your OB knows.
Good luck! And remember, you may forget from time to time -- especially when you're seriously considering throwing up -- but in the end, it's worth it!
