It isn't often I am shocked into silence, but when a member of my team asked me "Lokaine, What do totems do, that is precisely the reaction I had. The thought occurred to me if my teammate wasn't aware of what totems do, quite possibly, others may not be aware of the nature and abilities of what is generally described as totem.

The short answer to the question, What do totems do, is they enhance the abilities of the players in the group, or the shaman who is soloing, during battle.

However, in order to understand what they do, one needs to define what they are.

What is a totem?

The totem is a reagent of certain types of spells cast by my class, the Shaman. There are only four totems, and they are based on the elements found in nature. Hence, we have the air totem, the earth totem, the fire totem, and the water totem.

Totems are not bestowed upon the shaman all at once. They are attained through completion of class quests given to the shaman as level increases are achieved. Since they are the reagents for spells the shaman cast, they must be carried within the inventory at all times.

Do You See What I See?

The "totems" one sees are visual representations or marks of the particular spell which I cast.

In the photo above, one observes the Magma spell (fire totem reagent) and the Grace of Air spell (air totem reagent) "totems" I casted to assist me in battling my two gigantic opponents.

I will describe those two "totems" and the other totems contained in my elemental-based arsenal of spells in more detail in later blog posts.
