Much of what you need to learn about starting a new business depends on the type of business you want to start. To start, there are a few basics that apply to almost all businesses, at least in the USA.
Here are a few resources to help you find more information:
CCH Toolkit - Incredible resource of thousands of pages of information about starting a business, including finances, tax, licensing, insurance, and basic startup checklists.
Entrepreneur.com - Great resource of timely articles from Entrepreneur Magazine, and their collection of business startup kits.
Nolo Press - Some of the best books you can find (some are downloadable) on starting and running your small business.
AllBusiness.com - Great set of articles on all types of business issues.
eversmall.com - Small business blog with practical advice on running your single-person or very small business.
USPS.gov - Excellent resource of direct mail advice from the United States Postal Service.
IRS.gov - Comprehensive tax forms and advice from the experts in tax collection.
SBA.gov - Excellent collection of information including 25 online courses on starting new businesses.
There are thousands of small business sites and blogs on the Web. These are just some of my favorites. Don't forget to search on your state or province web site for local business information. For example, for California, where I live, you can find small business information at http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/

Thanks for the hub, dreadpal. I didn't know about NOLO Press. Shouldn't sba.gov be on that list?
