Sisters Coming Together in Prayer

In What a Sista Should Do by Tiffany L. Warren, the book is about three African-American women who are similar but are yet different. I will compare and contrast each of the three characters whose names are Pam, Yvonne, and Taylor. They are similar in which they have a tendency to pray without ceasing when things are not going well, and they are similar because each are going through problems and circumstances which plays an important part in their lives.

Pam is married to Troy, a song writer and record producer, but Troy is struggling financially to provide for his family, but Pam is the one who is a big time corporate executive who holds the family together. At first he is a struggling artist, but he eventually get his big break when a record label wants to buy his client from him. The record deal is in the millions, and they get the deal for 3.5 million dollars. Pam and Troy are able to buy anything that they want, so they buy a brand new house, and brand new equipment for Troy's recording studio. The only thing that is wrong with Troy is that he is not saved, and Pam prays on her knees every day that her husband gets saved. When he finally gets saved, Pam is overjoyed and thanks the Lord God that he has given his life to Christ.

Yvonne who is married to a preacher named Luke for twenty years thinks that she has the perfect marriage, and puts down women who are in bad situations not knowing that her husband has cheated on her with Taylor. Yvonne finds out that her husband is cheating when Taylor who lost her job, sends a letter wanting Luke to pay child support for her child, Joshua. It turns out that the child is Luke's through DNA testing, and Luke has to pay child support. When Yvonne confronts him, they get into a physical fight, and Luke puts her into the hospital. Yvonne prays to God that this is the last time that she gets beat up, and hopes that it does not happen again because she is really afraid of Luke. Yvonne also found out that Luke had a twenty-three year old daughter named Amanda who he secretly went to see occasionally, as well as the mother.

Taylor who says that she is just a baby mama with one son, named Joshua, is a nice looking woman who is well-built, and some of the women in the church do not like her because she has a son born out of wedlock. Luke, a preacher, she says is the father of her son. Taylor believed Luke's lies and lines when he said that he only wanted to be with her, but he was only out for one thing. Luke asked her to have an abortion, but she did not want to so he became mad at her for wanting to keep their child. Luke also told Taylor to never reveal the paternity testing of her child because he did not want anything to do with the child or her. So, for two years, she never revealed who the father was until she had to go to the welfare office, and they told her to get the father to start paying child support. So Taylor sends the papers to Luke, and he tells his wife that the baby is not his; but when he takes the DNA testing the results come out 99.9 percent positive that Luke is indeed the father. What stands out with Taylor is although she has a child out of wedlock she prayed and repented, and asked the Lord for forgiveness for cheating with a married man.

Pam, Yvonne, and Taylor become friends quickly through the Sister to Sister meeting, which Yvonne orchestrated, so they would have a place to share their feelings. All three come to respect one another with divine Christian values because they learned how to forgive, love, and pray together. All three realize that it is about Jesus Christ, and they impact each other by building each other up, and not putting each other down. They really reach out to one another in their times of needs, and show that it is about having true respect for each other.

I would recommend this book to people of all ages, race, and creed because the book talked about forgiveness, praying, and being in need of God in their everyday life.
