Network marketing is a very interesting topic that doesn’t get much press and unless you have been involved in a network marketing company you probably really don’t know a whole lot about it either.  Networking marketing which is also commonly called Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) in its truest form allows people become sales reps for that company’s product.  When a sale is made you will earn a commission.  Network marketing also allows the sales rep to recruit other sales reps and in return you will earn a percentage of commission off of your recruit’s sales.  A legitimate MLM will not allow you to receive a commission by signing up a new representative; only on his/her sales will you receive that commission.

Although not everyone is familiar with networking marketing, I believe everyone has at least heard of some network marketing companies if not purchase products from them.  Some of these companies include Mary Kay, Amway, Pampered Chef, Pre-paid Legal, Creative Memories, and Arbonne.  All of these companies rely on word of mouth selling rather than the traditional marketing channels such as print, TV, or radio advertising and selling in retail stores.

This word of mouth advertising has proved to be very effective.  How many times have you bought something or tried a new restaurant based solely on the recommendation of a friend?  Well, network marketing applies those principles and in return you get a commission on those sales since you made that referral.

Network marketing also allows individuals the opportunity to have their own home based business.  A home based business allows people the freedom the work when they want and make as much money as they want.  In addition to the opportunity of being free from having a traditional job, a network marketer can also take advantage of business tax breaks that regular W-2 wage earners could not.
