My favorite time of day is night. There's something about it that just inspires me. There's a particular era in my teenage years I remember fondly. We had a two-story home back then, my bedroom was on the second floor and I remember I did not have a drape or shade on the window that was facing my neighbor's rooftop. Weather permitting, once it was time to sleep, that window would remain open and let in fresh air and the beautiful moonlight. That inspired many poems in Spanish, which to my dismay, I have lost since then. When it would be too late for me to be chatting outside with my friends, who were also my neighbors, they would go to their roof, which was convenientely located right at the level of my uncovered window. Their home was right next to a dentist's office that was located on the second floor, so they easily accessed their roof via the dentist's stairs. We would spend endless nights talking about politics, art, friendships, and music. There's this song by a Spanish duo (Complices) called "Cuando Duermes" that defines that time in my life. Very fairy-tale like.

I also remember the nights we spent playing poker. One of them always cheated, but we had such a good time in each other's company it really didn't matter. It was good, clean fun. We thought we were so bohemian and mature. I came across some thoughts I had written in Spanish during that period about politics and I seriously couldn't believe my awesome vocabulary. LOL!

Nights might not hold the same magic and "all is right with the world" feeling anymore, but they still allow me to dream.
