What Type of Wheelchair Lift Do You Need?

There are many types of wheelchair lifts that you can choose from to aid your mobility around the home. For some people a domestic lift is not just a luxury but an essential addition to their home to enable them to lead an independent life.

Vertical Lift

This is one of the least common lifts because a vertical lift will take up a lot of room. The most usual option for a vertical lift is to build an extension on to your house, and install the lift in to the extension. However, if you are lucky enough to have a big enough house, a vertical lift could be installed internally.

Vertical wheelchair lifts are no where near as big as the lifts you might find in the local shopping center or multi-story carpark. They are small and compact and above all safe and sturdy to carry you and your wheel chair up and down the levels in your home.

Step Lift

A step lift is a small vertical wheelchair lift that is designed to raise the occupant only a few feet in the air - literally 1-3 steps. If your home has steps leading up to the door, the steps can easily be replaced by a wheelchair step lift for easy access in to and out of your home.

A step lift is designed to be all-weather machinery so is perfectly acceptable to install it outside.

Stair Lift

When people think of a domestic lift, most people will think of a stair lift. This type of wheelchair lift attaches to the wall next to your stairs and using either a sit on chair or a roll-on-roll-off wheelchair platform raises and lowers the occupant up and down the stairs.

These types of lifts are amongst the most common around the home as they are extremely compact and allow other people to use the stairs. It doesn't matter if your stairs have bends or curves, a wheelchair stair lift can cope with most things.

Conclusion

If you are disabled, wheelchair bound or are losing mobility due to old age or illness, investing in a wheelchair lift for your home can dramatically increase your independence and quality of life.
