Wheeled alone, whose heavy-as-I-slip is too late,
Uses the elevator to strip down, cool down.
That the train, speeding in darkness, is passed under
I hope, and sees my I Ching and lunch. My clothes
Carefully straight, extra minutes the platform there,
Jersey and tights fifteen minutes late. Even mind
Morning sharing, yellow, Starbucks, the station to
Read the I Ching and don’t drive a heavy backpack.
Take sharing, see too late today with the train, the
Head using those for my sweat a stop sign and don’t.
Wheeled wings, speeding in darkness
Alone or sharing an underpass with a car
Whose driver I hope sees my yellow backpack,
Heavy today with the I Ching and lunch and clothes.
As I slip carefully through red lights and stop signs,
Too late for Starbucks, I head straight to the station
Using those two or three extra minutes to take
The elevator down to the platform. There I
Strip down to my jersey and tights to let my sweat
Cool down and read the I Ching and don’t even mind
That the train is fifteen minutes late this morning.
