Greatest Invention of the 20th Century

I was recently listening to an Interview with Red Elk. A native-American medicine man. (Red Elk Speaks). On the late night am show (Coast to Coast). And since Red Elk is kind of venerable and had recently set up his own web site(www.redelk.org) The interviewer ( Gorge Noory) commented that he had seen some amazing changes in the course of his long life. Television, Space Flight etc etc...anyway, you get the gist. Red Elk promptly replied "Wheels on luggage". George was a little flatfooted but the wily shaman pressed on. Best invention of the century wheels on luggage now that really makes life easier. When you stop and think about it, it is true. I mean, if your not actually an astronaut, space flight's effects on your life might be peripheral. Well okay! cable/satellite TV mobile phones are useful but a mixed blessing? Wheels on luggage though is just one of those ideas that should have been around forever and just wasn't .

If you've ever listened to Red Elk, you'll know, he has a charming way of cutting through the buffalo chips and just keeping it simple. A lot of things in life are like that. We think we are impressed with them. We think we want them, but somehow when we have then they find a place with the crockpot and the Foreman grill in the cupboard you can't reach.

There's a whole tribe of infommercial salesmen celebrities, who promote these items full time. I even found a shop, full of them, in Tennessee, "As Seen On TV"( Exit 97, I75, in Careysville,TN). I bought a device for washing ball-caps in the dishwasher without shrinking them. Really useful things, things that go beyond mere rocket-science and into the realm of the truly useful, slip so seemlessly into life. No one knows who invented the wheel but we shall forever remember the name of...oh darn! Anyway, wheels on luggage will be a benchmark for civilisation... at least until anti-gravity.

They may not be a warp culture, Mr.Spock but they've got wheels on luggage!
