You just can’t get away with normal anymore.  Printing brochures are no different – if you really want to get attention, you have to do something different.  One of the easiest ways to be different is by printing brochures that are big.  But you have to be careful with “big” since printing brochures of a large size is not for everyone.

How big?

Well, the answer to this question really has to do with the application.  Will you be handing these brochures at a point of sale?  An 8.5 X 11 brochure is probably as big as you want to go.  But if you are mailing your brochures to a customer, you may want to go as big as 11 X 25.5.  These gigantic brochures are sure to get attention when your customer finds these in the mailbox.

Other kinds of “big”

The size of your brochures is not the only thing that matters.  You can make certain elements of your brochures big, too.  Large, oversized lettering on the front of your brochures can really make the brochures jump out at the customers.  Big pictures that fill up the entire page are another great way to get attention.  If you’re looking at your brochure, pick an element and imagine it taking up most of the brochure.  If your brochures would still effectively market your products and services with this element oversized, you may have a good candidate for “big.”

Thinking “big”

Big brochures are like big real estate – yes, you have more of it, but do you need it?  Printing big brochures will probably cost you a little bit more, so the items or services you’re selling should justify this additional expense.  Your big ticket items are good candidates for big brochures.  Avoid spending the extra money on big brochures if the products and services you're advertising have small profit margins, unless your goal is to sell lots of them.

Conclusion

In the marketing and advertising world, bigger is almost always better.  Make sure that you match the right products and services with big brochures.  And don’t forget, the size of your brochures is not the only thing that matters – you can also super size certain elements of your brochures and get a similar effect.
