When You're On A Budget Let's Make Soap!
53Saving money is the name of the game now a days. If you have a family or even if you're single, living within your means is a task within itself, but it is possible. There are so many ways to help save you money and many of these ideas have been around since the 1800s, but we are a society living on convenience.
Stop buying that high priced laundry soap and make your own at home. It will cost you on average about $9.00 to purchase the ingredients; three bars of ivory soap, borax & baking soda. These ingredients will yield about 30 gallons of liquid soap.
Now reflect on your monthly spending. You're buying one gallon of liquid soap that yields 60 loads and paying on average $10.00, which means you spend about $30 dollars a month including fabric softener. If you make your own soap each gallon will have cost you .30 cents a gallon each to make. The $9.00 you spent on the ingredients will make you three months worth of soap; which is about seven to eight gallons of soap in one batch totalling three batches out of the combined ingredients. This is a about a twenty minute process to mix and boil the ingredients and within twenty four hours you have ready to use soap.
Now lets further do the math. With store bought soap you will be spending $30 dollars a month, twelve times a month totaling, $360.00 a year. With home made soap you spend $9.00 dollars every three months totaling $36.00 a year. Your end of the year savings is $324.00; on a monthly bases you would be saving $27.00 dollars.
This is a great saving! All you have to do now is actually go out and buy the stuff and do it. Just google up the recipe or you-tube it by searching "laundry soap, and you are set to go." I hope you have fun making soap and by the way your house will smell great too when your making it.
