Welcome to Lakeland, Fl

Welcome to Lakeland, Fl

Lakeland, FL is a city of about 86,000 people, and about 100,000 in the overall metropolitan area.

I moved my family here in the middle of 2001 following my job that was outsourced to the are. Since then some changes have come to the area. Some companies merged, rose, fell, still the overall tone of the city has pretty much remained the same.

There are effectively 4 real major roads

Florida Avenue runs north and south, goes right through the downtown area

Harden Blvd also runs north and south, it is west of Florida Ave and runs down past the new mall area on the south side of town across from The Target Store in town.

Also running north and south is Old Bartow Highway also known as US Highway 98 North. It goes essentially from close to downtown to Bartow, the county seat.

Then there is Memorial Avenue, the only real arterial east to west road.

Education

At the Florida Department of Education you can get School Report Cards for all of the state including Polk County where Lakeland is located at.

Businesses

Downtown Lakeland hosts many events centered around Munn Park in Lakeland, Fl

Mitchells Coffee House is the only independent Coffee Shop that is in town that I am aware of. There are two locations, their main one just off of Munn Park and second one a few blocks away.
