Miami Tennis Masters 2009

Watch Sony Ericsson Open Tennis Live!

BNP Paribas was truly an exciting event that ended with Nadal winning his 13th Masters Series title. Nadal can now tie the mighty Roger Federer by winning his 14th Masters shield this week. Sony Ericsson Open 2009 (Miami Masters) is going to be an exciting event. The draw is already out, and we have some mouthwatering match ups at hand.

If you live in the U.S, you are going to have a lot of trouble finding decent coverage of this event. The coverage will be considerably better than last week but still leaves a lot to be desired. Here is how you can watch Miami Masters 2009 live:

  • Tennis Channel: the tennis channel does cover a few matches. The quality of commentary and the coverage always leaves something to be desired. But if you have tennis channel with your digital TV package, you may as well use it to watch tennis.
  • FSN: Fox Sports Net will be covering the event live. Too bad not many people have it.
  • CBS: Unlike BNP Baribas, Miami's finals will be shown on CBS live. It's the best way to watch the last matches. That is if you can wait that long.
  • Satellite PC: one of the best ways to watch tennis is to watch it online on a satellite PC package. Just because tennis is not televised in the U.S. doesn't mean there aren't any international channels with tennis coverage. Internet TV packages are the way to go if you got no coverage.
  • PPV: if you have a budget to work with, you can always choose PPV packages such as Tennis TV to watch all the tournaments and matches online. The passes are fairly affordable, but the package is made for tennis fanatics. If you live and breath tennis, PPV is the way to go.
  • Free Streams: some companies offer free streams for sporting events. The quality will be much lower and the coverage is not available in all countries, but it's better than having no coverage. You can try TVUPlayer for coverage info.

There you have it. Whether you want to watch Wimbledon or a small tournament, there is a good chance you can find decent coverage using one of the above options. Not all events are covered the same way on cable. You are going to have less trouble watching the grand slams on cable, but those smaller tournaments (not suggesting Miami Masters is a small one) are tougher to catch on TV.

Feel free to add more options if you can think of others avenues to catch tennis live.

P.S. Here are the matches that we could be watching if seeds fare well:

Round 3: Karlovic vs. Nadal

Round 4: Murray vs. Nalbandian, Roddick vs. Monfils, Simon vs. Tsonga, Djokovic vs. Blake

Quarter Finals: Federer vs. Roddick

Semis: Federer vs. Djokovic, Nadal vs. Murray

The event will run from March 25 to April 5, 2009.

Unfortunately in the Philippines, coverage starts in the quarters so I sometimes miss out on the great matches like the Nadal v Nalbandian in the round of 16 at the recent Indian Wells tounament. Good thing Slams are covered from start to finish! Thanks for sharing. Nice to know another tennis fan (i am assuming of course that you are :D)

vamos rafa! LOL

Rafa is certainly up there as one of the GOATs. But things can change so quickly!

Oh well, I guess Rafa would be in Rog's shoes someday - the coming of another GOAT wannabee :D

I think choosing these guys ath GOATs is extremely unfair to guys who had medival rackets. Rod Laver could have won many more slams. Bjorn Bord would have done wonders with today's technology. I like Rafa. I don't dislike Roger. Murray is good too. But GOAT? You got to win 20 slams for me to make up my mind :)
