1. Josh Beckett, SP, Florida Marlins: Beckett has lived up to the hype surrounding him when the Marlins drafted him out of high school with the number two overall pick in 1999. He won a World Series with the Marlins in in 2003, and when the Marlins couldn't afford him he duplicated the feat for the Boston Red Sox in 2007. Beckett remains one of the game's most dominant pitchers and a perennial Cy Young candidate.

2. Hank Blalock, 3B, Texas Rangers: Blalock broke through in 2003, and had his best offensive season in 2004 with 32 home runs and 100 RBI. Since then its been a story of injuries and inconsistency for Blalock, with the Rangers waiting each year for him to recover and perform.

3. Sean Burroughs, 3B, San Diego Padres: Highly regarded for his high batting average, Burroughs struggled to produce at the major league level, earning the nickname "The Bachelor" due to his ability to only hit singles. He was eventually released from a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners and is now out of organized baseball.

4. Nick Johnson, 1B, New York Yankees: Johnson was dealt to the Montreal Expos after one season in New York. Each year of his career has been marked by solid line drive hitting, occasional power, and nagging injuries. Johnson has been unable to put together a full major league season, but produces at an above average level when in the lineup.

5. Mark Prior, SP, Chicago Cubs: Like Johnson, injuries are the story of Prior's career. After his breakout 2003 season, he has been unable to put together an injury free campaign. A second shoulder surgery this past year likely means the end of a once-promising career for the former USC standout.

6. Wilson Betemit, SS, Atlanta Braves: Betemit broke into the majors as a utility player with Atlanta, before earning regular playing time in Los Angeles. His poor play for a starter earned him more utility time, both with Los Angeles and with the New York Yankees, his current organization.

7. Juan Cruz, SP, Chicago Cubs: Cruz has flip-flopped between the rotation and the bullpen in stops in Chicago, Atlanta, Oakland, and now Arizona. WIth the Diamondbacks he has become a successful late inning reliever. As a free agent this offseason, Cruz figures to attract much attention for his services.

8. Ryan Anderson, SP, Seattle Mariners: Once compared to Randy Johnson, the 6'10" pitcher was felled by injuries early in his career, and never reached the major leagues.

9. Joe Borchard, OF, Chicago White Sox: Borchard, the former Stanford quarterback, was a big time power hitting prospect for the White Sox. He never turned into the hitter many thought he would be, and played this past season in the Atlanta Braves minor league system.

10. Mark Teixeira, 3B, Texas Rangers: Teixeira moved to first base with Texas and has provided huge offensive numbers and great defense in each subsequent year. He was dealt to Anaheim this past July, and figures to play an important role in their World Series quest. Teixeira figures to be one of the highest paid free agents of the upcoming offseason.
