Where is David? Remembering September 29, 1984

This day around the world
Nine days after Hezbollah car-bombed the U.S. Embassy annex in Beirut, David Shirley came into the world. Gene Autry was celebrating his 77th birthday on this day, and the day's ozone layer was being photographed by NASA- total column ozone values of less than 220
Dobson Units were not observed prior to 1979.
Russia boycotted the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles that year and in a moment he considered off record, President Ronald Reagan tested a mike by announcing, "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes".
That year, troops in India had killed 2,000 people when they stormed the Sikh's holiest shrine, the Golden Temple at Amritsar. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi would be assasinated a month after David was born by Sikhs Satwant Singh and Beant Singh-- 15 days after Archbishop Desmond Tutu was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Iran accused Iraq of using chemical weapons that year and the United Nations condemned their use. John Napier Turner became Prime Minister in Canada; Australia chose its national colors of green and gold as well as its national anthem, Advance Australia Fair; and South Korea stated its goals of prosperity at home and peace and accommodation abroad.
Top movie the week of September 28, 1984 was All of Me starring Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin. Top novel on the New York Times Best Seller list September 16 wasTHE FOURTH PROTOCOL, by Frederick Forsyth.
At home life was also challenging
David's big sister Lisa had suffered a stroke when she was two years old and was in recovery mode when David was born. But little DAV was a hardy soul and managed to charm his way into the heart of his cousin Laura way down in Missouri as well as Grampa Shirley, who would only play peek-a-boo with his grandson for three short years. He had cousins on his mom's side of the family too, and together we all formed a loving support system.
Now he is traveling the country on his bicycle, giving back for all the blessings he has received through his 25 years on this earth and I know I speak for all when I say,
DAV, we couldn't be prouder as you ride the range in the saddle of your bike!
Back in the Saddle Again, Riding the Range just like DAV!

What is David going to say to you when he see his BABY picture on the net for all the world to see! First he will want to strangle you and will love you to death... :O)
Haha, I hear I am in trouble for calling him Binky Booter on Facebook. This was an adorable nickname his dad gave him when he was young. Yes, I imagine I will eat lots of curdled milk when I get to Wisconsin for Christmas, haha.
You mentioned the assassination of Indira Gandhi - some might say it was an outcome of the monster she herself had created to garner votes in a previous election.
But, immediately after her assassination, there were riots in which many thousands of innocent Sikhs across the country - 3000 or so in Delhi alone - were hounded and lynched by what is probably one of the ugliest acts of politically sponsored state retaliation. Shamefully, practically no one has been brought to book for those acts even though 25 years have passed.
I am so sorry, Jaspal, for this sad moment in your country's history. Behind every little detail lies a host of information that adds meaning and understanding to each event. You saw that on my Mount Rushmore Hub. Some of this is opinion and best left unexpressed, I think, but events like those you describe should be headline news. What a travesty!
