Where Have All the Mimes Gone?
58Why are Mimes the Brunt of Jokes?
I'm not afraid to admit it. I used to be a mime. I used to take classes. I hung out with other mimes. My boyfriend did mime too.
But something happened. People began to be hating on the mimes. We had such a flood of negative vibrations. I still use those skills because they work with juggling, acting, improvisation and dance. And I hope a time will come when people are all excited when they see a mime.
I remember watching Shields and Yarnell. I saw Dimitri live. And I've been following Marcel Marceau's career for years. To me it's a brilliant and difficult art form. I don't understand the hate.
Rest in Peace Marcel Sept. 23, 2007
Sadly we just lost the greatest mime of modern times. A friend just told me that Marcel Marceau passed away today so I read some online articles about it. He was 84 and will be buried in Paris.

One of our pastors at church is a mime and he created a whole business doing it in our town. He now travels across the nation. His business is named Joy Unspeakable.
Moonmaiden, I think it's partly fashion. For a few joyful years, I had a career in flamenco dancing - in my forties, for Pete's sake! Suddenly, for no reason at all, the bookings started to peter out. And class numbers dropped. The fact that I injured my knee was the final straw, but the performance troupe was just about defunct by then anyway.
I'm sure there are people who still appreciate the subtleties of mime, but the rest of the world has moved on to the latest craze...
Marisa, I just met a flamenco teacher doing a booming business in San Diego. Her name is Marisol. So you never know when something will make a comeback.
