Yankee Candles - Among The Best, If Not THE Best

Scented candles are no longer just sold in gift shops.  They can be purchased everywhere from drug stores to grocery stores.  With candles available in so many varieties and brands, which brand offers the best scented candles?  In my opinion, Yankee Candles.

Whether it's a jar candle, a tart, or a basic votive, Yankee candles of a good range of scents for everyday (or special-occasion) use; and based on my experience, I believe Yankee candles have a more long-lasting, more noticeable, scent.

Since my favorite is the Yankee candle tart (for tart burners), my familiarity with a vast number of available scents has been gained through tarts.  Jar candles and votives, of course, come in the same scents as tarts; so room-scenting doesn't have to be limited to one tart burner.

The less expensive scented candles tend to come in only the most basic scents; and from my experience, many of them may as well not be scented at all and instead just be used as "hurricane" candles.

Better-brand candles often do come in scents that may be nicer than many of the Yankee candle scents, but many of those have a tendency to lose their scent more quickly than Yankee candles do.  A nicer scent doesn't do a room much good if it fades too soon.

There are candles that are fancier than Yankee candles are, but (and this is just me) I am reluctant to burn beautifully handcrafted candles that are more pieces of art than home-scenting treats.

Yankee Candle candles are consistent in shape and scent.  The scents range beyond just the usual, basic, scents.  With a wide variety of florals, spices, fruits, mints, herbals, baked goods, natural elements, and combinations of any of these; Yankee candles offer a good selection of products that will not lose their scent too soon.

With some brands, one may get only one or two uses from something like tarts.  I keep the same Yankee tart in my kitchen burner for weeks.  I may light the burner for a couple of hours, and I occasionally let it run a little longer.  One tart will scent morning coffee time for a couple of weeks before I have to replace it.

Votives, jar candles, and tea lights have a similar long-lasting trait (although less than tarts).

Although Yankee does retire some scents from time to time, many of their classic scents have been available for years.   They offer a wide selection of seasonal scents, which is, of course, nice.  They're always bringing out new scents, as well.

My favorite scents happen to be Buttercream, Rain Forest, Spa Fresh, and Sage and Ginger.  Classics I like are, of course, Vanilla and Eucalyptus.  Rain Forest makes a great Spring morning, kitchen, scent.  Buttercream is a great cooler weather, kitchen scent.

Although the world is full of nice, scented, candles; my leaning toward Yankee is attributed to the fact that the scents are long-lasting, consistent, and readily available.  I've probably never met a scented candle I don't like; but it is Yankee candles that have accompanied my morning coffee and kitchen-window sunshine for years.

I've always wondered if they work as well as people say. Thank you!

Netters, my sister, daughter, and I buy others from time to time - but Yankees tend to be our "old stand-by's". And, of course, when gift times come around, we all know we can't go wrong including a Yankee candle or tarts. I know I sound like an add for them, but we all just really like them.

Lisa, oh you bethca! I love Yankee Candles! Recently, I've been saving the wax left in the bottom, mixing it with other candle ends and making a new candle out of it. I even wrote a hub about it! Anyway, one of my Yankee Candle left-overs is on its 3rd time around! Considering the expense of them, this thrills me to no end.

I love the black one, I think it's called summer storm.

Dolores, might the black one be "Midsummer Night's Dream"? I love that one. My local gift shop is drastically reducing its inventory of Yankees. I've decided to start shopping online. I'll go see your candle Hub. :)

I used to think Yankee candles were the best. That is, until I found an on-line candle vendor called "Candles by Victoria". She has over 500 scents and her wax melts and smells the best I've ever used!!! Ever!! I'm quite a candle conniseur (sp?)- and since discovering CandlesbyVictoria.com, I have never purchased or even looked at another candle brand!! Seriously ladies and gentlemen, do yourself a HUGE favor and give Candles By Victoria a try. Her tarts (scent shots as she calls them) are long lasting and fragrant too!! The best...simply the best!!

FLcandlelover, thanks for contributing. I haven't heard of them. I've bought lots of other good-brands, but I've often found that even though many other brands offer nice candles and nice scents they often don't last as long as Yankees. (I'm not implying Victoria's don't - only mentioning why I've always favored Yankees. Of course, Yankee Candle is a famous company in my area, so that's a factor in our "awareness" of them here, in Massachusetts. I'm going to look at the Victoria site.)

I've been buying Yankee for ages. I love the scents but do find them hard to burn. Sometimes they tunnel, sometimes they soot up. I recently stumbled along Busy Bee Candles from Wales. I ordered a couple and WOW. They seem to burn better (must be the soy wax) and smell at least as good as Yankee. They also burn all the way to the bottom of the jar. My favourites so far are Baby Powder and Rose Petals. Not sure if they deliver to the US ( I live in the UK). Happy sampling!

Jinanne, thanks. I wouldn't mind finding some new brands. My local gift shop has recently reduced it's Yankee selection; so buying online is making more and more sense to me these days.

Losa - right-o. I love Midsummer Night's Dream as well as the balsam fir and cedar, nice for the winter.

Dolores, thanks. I like Midsummer Night's Dream too. These days our local shop has only Christmas/Winter scents, but they do have lots of them.
