HDTV Converter Box- shopping for value

The deadline is almost here.

On June 12th all television will be broadcast in digital format and around 70 million TV sets in America won't work without a converter box or unless connected to digital cable or satellite networks. Are you ready?

I did a little homework to see which HDTV converter boxes and antennas were the best value for the money. The savings coupon from the government for $40 makes these HDTV converter boxes an even better value.

Converter Boxes

I looked at several converter boxes using Google Shopping to compare features and prices as well as looking at reviews of people who had purchased them. In the end I chose two which, in my opinion, were the best value for the money .

Zenith DTT901

The first one I looked at was the Zenith model. It was reasonablyprice at between $50-$70 and also qualified for the US government coupon card. The government offers a free $40 coupon which is available at dtv.gov.

The Zenith digital converter box offers on screen program information, easy installation and a simple to use remote control. It is easily installed and works with all types of TV sets.

Access closed captions using the CC button on the remote control through the simple menu, choose fonts, sizes, colors and more for digital closed captions. This was the converter with the best consumer  reviews as well.

COBY DTV-140 - HDTV tuner

This unit was very attractive to look at but offered basically the same features as the Zenith model and was priced higher at between $80-$120. Only one consumer review was available for this one and it was positive.

It was my conclusion that of all the converter boxes I reviewed the Zenith DTT901 was the best rated value.
