Are they worth it?

There seems to be an abundance of quit smoking programs available today. If you go to the hospital, American Lung Association or any of the various ancillary services, you'll readily see the invitations to sign up and quit. The question often arises, as to why there are so many programs available. Could it be that none of them actually work?

The truth of the matter is that most smokers can fit into two categories. Now this is something that is supported by the modern day guru of personal achievement Anthony Robbins. He teaches that human beings, you and I are all hard wired to either avoid pain or be drawn towards pleasure. On these two towers, we make all of our decisions. Some of us more conscious than others.

Smokers can be divided into two categories. First is those that smoke because it makes them feel pleasurable. They seek this outlet not because it erodes tension but because it gives them pleasure. For this group the administrator or doctor will often determine your orientation based up a validated and calibrated survey.

Now, the other group of which you may fall into is that you smoke mainly to relieve tension, stress and those undesirable emotions. There is help for you to. But the treatments are a little different. So, there really is no one size fits all stop smoking programs that work. Knowing what you've learned thus far can already help you to be closer to successfully quitting smoking.

The right quit smoking programs for you and others are best entered into after you've developed you support system. You will need a very supportive group to aid you in your efforts to successfully stop smoking. Friends, neighbors, co-workers, family, all play a crucial role in helping you...beware of those that want you to fail though. If your spouse is a smoker and you want support from him to quit you will face a big problem.

As we've shared above if you are in the first group of smokers who smoke for pleasure. You treatment may be different than others treatments. You should focus on getting a substitute hobby or sport. You can chew gum, go power walking or do Zumba or Yoga even. All help you to gain pleasure that you are wired to need.

On the other hand if you are in group two, you'll likely do best when engaged in a program that incorporates stop smoking pills like Zyban or Chantix. Use of nicotine reduction methods such as Nicotrol or Nicoderm CQ are available and work well also. Cold turkey quitting as well as any other type of quitting smoking requires that you take each day, one day at a time.
