Which Version of The Bible is Accurate?
63
And Why Should it Matter to You?
I once believed (not long ago) that all modern version of the Bible were relatively accurate and that it didn't really matter which one I used. I personally began to favor the New Living Translation. But, as I grow in my Christian experience, God is leading me to more and more truth. It IS VERY important to God that we understand and know His Word. If the Word is changed by man, how can it be trusted? Revelation 22:18-19 says, "18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." That is a pretty strong warning considering all the plagues and horrors in Revelation!
If you're a sincere Christian and determined to know the will of God, then don't turn a blind eye to truth. Not all Bibles say the same thing. Many are blantantly altered from the Received Text. There is a wealth of information on the subject but Dr. Veith presents the information in an interesting and clear manner. How I wish this had been one of my Professors when I went through University!

The Gnostic Gospels were rejected by 99.5% of all Christians for 1800 years. They were not left out of the English translations on accident. Watch the videos and it will become clearer.
If the Part 3 video doesn't load, you can watch it on AOL Video here:
Were there other books, such as some of the Torah, that were also left out? I am a bit rusty on this, so forgive me if I am asking the wrong question.
Most of my friends use the King James version, and I have Bibles from my great-grandfather, grandfather and dad that are KJV. I also bought one called "The Book" which I didn't like very much.
According to theologians, and numerous other sources, there were LOTS of books that were left out. The religious leaders of the time picked and chose those which best suited their agenda. The "words of God" were highly edited.
That being said: IS there a 'correct' version?
Constant, I tried to read Biblical writings in the original languages - I took courses to be able to do that, but it's pretty hard and I didn't have time to do it right, so I stopped.
I would very much love to be able to read the words in original context and see if translations come close to the feeling, not the just the literary translation, of the original texts.
Words create pictures in our minds; that is how we create thought, and that is how we come to understand each other. Even if the pictures may not all be the same from one person to the next, the general idea comes close.
I wonder if the pictures created in the minds of someone who lived 2,000 years ago can be equated to pictures we have now?
There were a lot of other writings that some would have you believe should be included in the Bible. Were they inspired by God as the Scriptures say they are? The proliferation of codices throughout the world in many different languages don't include them and never did. Just because they're old doesn't mean they're good nor does it mean that they were inspired.
By the way, if you're not a Christian, the debate over which Bible is truth will be pretty meaningless. I'm not attempting to lay out the debate here - I leave that up to Professor Veith in the videos. There's a couple hours worth of watching to be had, but I believe it is definitely worth the time.
So true. I realized this immediatly. I figure that because of this, the many different versions of what is called "truth", that inevitably someone did us "sinners'' a favor in a sence because of all the changes and innacuracies of the Bible and missing peices, we aren't able to know the truth anymore.
While I am not a christian, I believe that for people who really want to understand "God", that they should also read whatever else they can find and not limit yourself to just one book. It's not complete or accurate. Who do you trust?
Ps. I would be christain or was but changed my mind by the acts of other christians, all the lies and grief they cause. Not to say there aren't good God loving christians out there who do the right things and say the right things etc...but I certianly haven't seen a lot of good ethical actions come out of many christians.
I think a lot of Christians feel that just one book holds all the truth, but really it seems to me, that whomever it is, doesn't want you to know and be free to live under God. This is Gods country! I call the purpetrator Satan.
God Bless.
I'm the opposite of you Sandra. I came out of "humanistic" (esoteric or ecumenical) thinking even though I called myself a Christian. I did not realize or understand my errors through those times but recently my eyes have been dramatically opened to the truths found in the scriptures. We're all at different places in our "walk" so my understanding at this time will hopefully change as I learn more. Neither am I any sort of authority on the matter - I am still a student, not a teacher.
Not all religions are worshiping the same God although they believe they are. You can only tell whom a person worships by the "fruits" that they bare. If it is not love, peace, joy, and rightness, then it is not the God of Heaven that they're worshiping. Unfortunately, this is true of the majority of Christianity as well as all other religions.
Obviously this is a valuable piece dlarson as it has prompted thought and discussion. Not that I'm anybody, we are to please God and not man, but your response to Sandra and Chef Jeff's contribution in response to CW I believe are well said.

You forgot about the books that were just left out. According to the book of Judes he was told by both God and Jesus that as the most devout aplostile he had to hand Jesus over to the Jews. That doesn't mean that he couldn't feel bad about what he did it just means that he had to. Maybe he wasn't as bad as some would have you believe. It would have made him a bad guy if he hadn't obeyed the order of God.
