A few people want to know if is better to make a hub on hubpages, or a lens on Squidoo. The truth is, the best thing to do would to be make one of each, but if you wanted to make just one page, and needed to pick either hubpages or squidoo, then it is up to you - they are both excellent.

You see, the hubs and lenses that do extremely well have more to do with YOU than with the site you use. I have seen some front page lenses and hubs on various google searches, and there really is no difference between the two when it comes to generating traffic and popularity.

Going strictly by performance of each site, Squidoo is outperfoming Hubpages as of this writing. Here are the statistics as of right now:

• Squidoo: PageRank 6, Alexa Rank 425, Compete.com rank 372
• Hubpages: PageRank 5, Alexa Rank 722, Compete.com rank 611

For pagerank, higher is better, and 6 is better than 5, but remember that pagerank is calculated per page, and this is the score of the home page, not any page on the site. What you do for your page will affect your pagerank more than anything.

The other numbers, Alexa ranking and Compete.com ranking are impressive for both Squidoo and Hubpages, but Squidoo squeezes out the winning spot. With rankings, being the #1 site in the world is better than being #2,327,411, and at #425, Squidoo is getting millions of visitors each month. Hubpages is getting about 65% of the traffic, but before you run off to Squidoo, let me remind you...it is what you do for your page that affects your ranking, performance, and web site traffic, more than the site will ever do for you.

So, what can you do to create a successful hub or lens, and get traffic to it?

First, write a great page, with lots of useful content, video, links and pictures. Make sure it is original writing, so you don't get penalized as duplicate content.
