Choices available in Eighties:
Indians have few choices for the entertainment during the eighties.Means of timepass were reading newspapers, magzines, story books, novels listening radio programs, songs or drama, and viewing movies in cinema halls. Different festivals celebrated in India offered occasional entertainment for centuries in India. I think no other country in the world has so many festivals to celebrate as do India. Era of color television viewing just began but television channels were limited. Mostly people have to depend on the national channel. Video enetred in the Indian market later nineties.
Lack of other entertainment means led peole depend solely on sex as main mean of entertainment, especially the poor people. Besides illiteracy, this is one of the important reson for increased population growth rate. Was sex not a favourite topic among Indians to discuss in the eighties? It will be wrong if one replies in affirmative. Sex has always been a favourite topic among Indians. Howverer, Indian society has always been a conservative society so it was assumed that whoever discusses sex openely in eighties , was considered uncivilized or a odd men. But people of same age group always discussed it in privacy and under limits. It is reflected in movies of that period. Few movie producers like Raj Kapoor dared to give exposure of sex to people in the name of art movies but they did not dare to show kisses due to fear of censorship. Different standards for sex and violence were set by the Censor Board for films. Films were certified as "Adult" or "A" if these had some content of sex and violence and movies.
Nineties and onwards:
In nineties, some relaxations were made by the Censor Board for the movies. Few kiss scenes and little body exposures were allowed. People enjoyed hugs by the film actor and actresses. However, late night moveies were allowed on Indian television for viewers but after 11.30 PM and that too once in a week. During this period, electronic gadgets like Video Cassete players and video cassete recorders were imported by few people. Also some porn movied from west were smuggled to India and people got the taste of westrn pornography. Since sex was not a open commodity in India, people liked it in the begining but sudden exposure to such overdose of sex was not much liked by the people. Gradually, more sexy scenes in the India movies started appearing and Censor Board also relaxed rules related to sex and violence.
Indian movies:
People's likings:
AS far as I understand, Indians never liked a overdose of sex. They always preferred sex mixed with some love in it. Indians also not prefer pornography of western style. It will be wrong to say that people here dislike sex movies. Yes they like it but in Indian style.People like sex in a civilized manner. Love is pre-requisite to sex in India. Other forms of sex like oral or un-natural sex are forbidden in India. Sex movies without a proper story are generally disliked by most. That's why, smuggled pornographic movies are not in much demand in India. It has to be admitted that people still feel excited for forced or secret sex in India and that is the reason why rapes are committed in much more numbers than western countries. Extra -martial relations are also more common here as people get more enjoyment with secret relationships. If we talk about sex movies, people, in general, dislike porn movies showing group sex, un-natural sex and sex without love (direct sex). On the other hand, people prefer rape scene, movies having both sex and love mixed in proper proportion. There is a great demand for MMS clips, net cafe clips or movies captured by hidden cameras. This liking is , I believe, for the pure reason, that Indians like sex in natural way.

Mmm very interesting comments. I grew up watching Hindi movies and I must say they were awrsome.
The more I hear about your culture, the more I like it. You seem to have a good balance in life whereas western society is still obsessed with all things material and selfish.
Super hub!
In pre-independence days,i.e.Prior to the advent of cinema on a large scale, our people were happy with folk performances like-puppet-shows, yakshagana, open-air drama performances.etc.But the magic box called cinema has driven them to the backside.Fine folk entertainment programmes, which were culturally good too, are now week because of lack of precaution.Harikatha is also one of them.
