Whitney Houston
I Look To You...Video/Song Review
I finally watched the latest Whitney Houston video, “I Look to You” on youtube. The dress she wore in the video I saw was absolutely stunning though simple. The video, like the dress was simple as well, just her sitting on a chair in a wide open space singing up to the heavens.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve been avoiding listening—I didn’t really think this was what I was doing but perhaps I was. I guess I was struggling with the fear that the new music would not live up to my expectations as I have heard mixed reviews.
Being a fan, of course I was expecting to hear the once sweet, soft and light soprano voice from back in the day in songs like “All the Man I Need,” or “Saving All My Love for You.” Unfortunately, I am sad and sorry to say that is not what I heard. In this song and video the voice was unrecognizable to me. It just did not sound like Whitney.
Now with that being said, I have not heard any of the other songs on her new Album yet. I can not make an assessment on the complete quality of the project. However, so far I am not excited. This one song has potential to become a favorite because it is a pretty song with a good message. But, it is one that will have to grow on me. It did not reach out and grab me on the first play which in itself is not the best sign.
Whitney Singing On Good Morning America...9-1-09
Let's Try this Again...
Not willing to totally give up on Whitney, I searched and watched another video of her singing "I Look To You." This one was of her guest appearance on Good Morning America earlier this year. She sang this song to her mother Cissy Houston who was in the audience seemingly fighting back the tears.
After watching this performance, even though her voice was scratchy, a little hoarse and she did not seem to have the breath or energy as before, my heart was touched and I saw this as the beginning of her journey to a comeback. It will be a process and her real fans will stick with her. We have been waiting for her and hoping for her. Now we just need to keep on hanging with her. My faith is renewed and I am rooting for her still. She is just like us, human. The difference is her life has been an open book for all the world to see.

Thank you!
deestew: Good hub. Yes, Whitney Houston's voice has changed. It is more mature. She is older for one thing and, for another, she's been through so much for such a long time. I heard her on Oprah last week and she was great. It will be a long journey back, but with hope and support, she'll make it.
deestew, I suppose you did not see or hear Whitney on Oprah; she was GREAT. She looked and sound great and certainly did not disappoint. I am so glad that she is back because I think that her voice is a "national treasure" Please take a second listen because you will be pleasantly surprised.
Cheers!
Whitney Houston once had a voice that you could hear on top of a mountain with ear muffs on....and whether near or far, it was one of the most beautiful sounds you have ever heard. Now she does struggle, her wind is short and it just doesn't grab you anymore. But like you, I am a true fan and still hoping. Once she forgot where she came from, I truly feel the Lord took his gift back.
On another note, Bobby Brown was in San Antonio this weekend doing a show. He was performing at a local club owned by a friend whom I went to highschool with. Gave me a couple of backstage passes....ahhmmm...WOW!! First let me say I am a Bobby Brown fan! People talk about him, but they all jammed that My Perogative album. My Perogative, Every Little Step, Roni and all the other songs on that album. Even from that King of Stage album (it was some jams on there). Bobby can't hit a note, he can't breathe, he can't finish the verse...lol...but he is my boy....gotta love 'em!
