Who are We Now?

Who are we now that President Barack Obama is the President of the United States. In all actuality , the bible used 147 years ago by President Abraham Lincoln was sworn upon and now President Barack Obama has had his first news conference. Though as if still in campaign mold, President Barack Obama is traveling to a few states to rev up support for the Economic Stimulus Plan, who are we and how should we respond to the new Presidency. Who are we now in terms of etchnicity, political party, race and religion?

"Who are we now that President Barack Obama is President of the United States" will attempt to identify the new America that has evolved from President Abraham Lincoln to an America as strong and eloquent as the speeches spoken by President Barack Obama.

The United States has become just as mosaic as the county in Bronx, New York which is the most diverse county in the country. Demographics show that the future of America will be just as diverse as minorities of today will account for the majority of the U.S. population. By the year 2042, the minorities' population would have surpassed the majority with a youth of political active citizens.Fifty thousand Hispanics reach the age of 18 each month in the United States and 2/3 of that population comprise the youth culture. HIspanics and immigrants comprise just about every county in America as well as the county in Bronx, New York. Of the 3000 counties in the United States about 900 of these counties' inhabitants are Hispanics.

Will America become a country where the state of your economy decides your voice. This statement is much doubted. Will America become a country of a ruling class of suburbanites. That is where the middle class perches and President Barack Obama in his campaign speeches said that this is the class of people who had been most ignored and the most important group of Americans in recouping the economy.

Will the educated Americans define who we are as President Barack Obama intelligently selected the best qualifed for his cabinet. The term "smart" has been used often to describe President Barack Obama's administration. He was ushered into the Presidency because of the youth vote and their propensity to use information technology.  Rememer the gridded map on one of President Barack Obama's campaign stop when the announcer told everyone to use their cell phones to call a few friends to vote.  That map lit up all across of American with a majority of those called, the youth of America.

Timothy Geithner, just rolled out an economic stability package that was geared to presenting the American public with more transparency in the dealing of bank investments and bailouts. The banks were not happy with the plan, some citing that too much transparency will cause a rise of distrust. Nevertheless, Mr. Geithner was able to draw up a plan in time for his news conference on February 11, 2009 that surely met the approval of President Barack Obama.

What does demographics have to do with who we are now that President Barack Obama is President? It would seem that these numbers would be prevalent with or without the election of President Barack Obama. A look at the demographics let the American people know that as the population shifts, so does politics. Political issues will have to be centered somewhat on these population shifts.

Whether Americans identify themselves as part of a rising minority, a ruling class of surbanites, a part of "smart government" or as participants of a more transparent government, history will define America as a country that adapted to its rapid change in government. In a country that braved change especially in the days of President Abraham Lincoln, it is certain that Americans will continue to identify themselves with strength and sustainability to keep the country moving forward. As far back as 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson stated that: "Our beautiful America was built by a nation of strangers. From a hundred different places or more they have poured forth into an empty land, joining and blending in one mighty irrestible tide." winston Churchill stated in 1940 that can be applied to the changing times in America: "Things are afoot which will be remembered as long as the English language is spoken in any corner of the globe."
