Who Has The Best Employee Discounts?

I've worked at a pretty fair amount of places before getting locked down at Walgreens for the last four years and I have to say that all employee discounts are not created equal. My first job was at Hardees where the employee discount was essentially free drinks and free or very cheap food depending on which manager was working. My time as a security guard showed me that you should be thankful you get an employee discounts because most security companies don't offer one. Other than those, the places I've worked for have had pretty good discounts which I'm going to share with you. Who knows this hub may make you decide its time for a job change. Take into consideration that its been a few years since I've worked at some of these so the discounts may have changed, and also where I say its 10% it could have been 15% because I'm pretty sure but wouldn't bet my life on it.

I worked for the now bankrupt Circuit City for my second job making a whopping $9.00 hr which was crazy at the time since I was still in high school and made $5.75 hr at my first job. But anyway one of my best friends was fired and I eventually quit because our manager was a dick. We both applied for Best Buy, he got hired and I didn't but surprisingly we learned Circuit City and Best Buy had the same discounts. If I recall correctly it was 10% in the store and like 40% off monster brand accessories but where you got the huge discounts was the accommodations website. While working for Circuit City I purchased car stereo equipment that would have cost me in the mid $2,000s anywhere else but I only paid $400. That's counting a nice pioneer cd player, two 12 inch top of the line infinity sub woofers, a top of the line infinity amp, top of the line infinity 6x9 speakers for the back of the car, and top of the line infinity plate speakers for the front. I was also able to snag a 32 inch t.v. for $100 because I worked on black Friday, not bad at all. Honestly if your an electronics person, you need to work at Best Buy because you'll save thousands compared to retail price.

After not getting hired at Best Buy I was hired at Blockbuster, turns out the Blockbuster manager knew my Circuit City manager because he was a regular customer and she too thought he was a dick. Blockbuster has a very good discount if your a movie lover, when I worked there I made $6.75 hr and I believe the discount was 10% on everything in the store. However you also were able to use five free rentals every week which could go towards movies or games and you were able to check out the new releases a week before they were actually released. If you do work there beware of free rental coupons even if your manager says they are okay, trust me I got fired for using them.

After Blockbuster it was unarmed security for a while until I landed with Walgreens. Starting pay at the time was $7.55 hr but after a few months I got bumped to head of the photo department making $9.00 hr. The in store discount is 15% even on items that are on sale or clearance, anything that is Walgreens brand however you get 20% discount on. Walgreens also likes to have employee appreciation days every couple of months where you get 25% discount on everything instead of the standard 15%. It doesn't stop there though, we also receive a 15% discount on monthly cell phone service from Verizon or Sprint, a 10% discount on HP computers, discounts on theme parks, discounts on new cars from Ford, Chrysler, or GMC, membership to a credit union, discounts on gyms, discounts on home loans, and more I can't think of.

My wife works for Walmart and they offer a 10% discount and even issue employees and their spouses discount cards but their in store discount sucks because it doesn't even work on all items. Just like Walgreens though, they offer a never ending list of discounts at other places and one that I really like is that they offer a discount for online colleges.

Perhaps the best discount of them all, my mothers Kroger discount. The in store discount is 15% but the phone number the discount is registered with is my grandmothers, why? Simple really because on Tuesday seniors get 5% off bringing our savings on Tuesday to 20% off and that's not counting any coupons we may have. Kroger also offers a nifty little feature where shopping there earns you points and you can use those points to lower their gas prices 10 cent per gallon. Needless to say we pretty much only buy groceries and gas from Kroger, I'm not sure what other discounts Kroger offers because I don't feel like bothering my mother but honestly do they even need to offer anything else? I'd love to hear some of the discounts you guys get, feel free to leave a comment.

Great idea for a hub! I have worked at Wendys where we got a discount off our meal and at Baskin Robbins I think we go one free scoop a day plus a discount.
