Who believes in the supernatural?

Do you enjoy reading about the supernatural?

A well-known writer once said: I don't believe in ghosts but I'm scared of them.

I was wondering what people out there think about the supernatural? Do you believe in angels, ghosts and other entities? Do you believe they can cross over from wherever they are and make themselves known to us?

Do you think there are powers out there who hear our inmost desires and try to fulfil them? Or people who can look into the future? Or bring us messages from the past? Does coincidence exist?

These are some of the topics I'm reflecting on for the novel I'm currently writing. I always learn so much when I'm writing - it's a perpetual road to discovery about myself and others.

I'd love to hear your views.

There is a circumstance in some churches I visit when not attending my own, in that the folks believe in a God they cannot see, but do not want to accept a supernatural characteristic(s) for Him. They seem to believe that if a person has experiences with angels or hearing the voice of God (not even the literal voice, but even inspiration from nature or a poem one reads at a coincidental time, etc.) then that person is insane.

So, I think some individiuals and groups want to talkk about God but not to Him - one such person said that God is just a filing cabinet for organizing society.

At any rate, I do believe in other dimensions of reality and that form time to time they overlap.

Cheers.

Hi Patty.  I'm truly flattered you responded so quickly.  I love your hub.  It's an interesting question, isn't it, this one of why people seem to fear believing in somethng they can't explain.  As if ration is all.   Maybe I'm wrong but I think we're the poorer for denying the things we don't understand.
  I appreciate your welcome.

To me the supernatural has always been a natural part of life. We only need to prove to ourselfs that all the planes of the universe are for us to access and always have been. The dream state seems to be one of the easier access points to the supernatural worlds. We are soul and can work with these other entities as we wish. Some people know it and are actively living duel existences on other planes. I love your hub you ask Kewl questions ;-)

Welcome!

Hi Coolbreeze - your reflections are very thought-provoking. I read your great post on surfing. Exciting. I was wondering if you get time to do a lot of thinking when you're out there communing with nature. Sounds like a wonderful life.

Rajesh Khanna - I remember he was quite a megastar in the 70s. He played in a lot of good Bollywood movies and was an excellent actor from the school of method acting. But I remember a scene from a movie that really cracked me up - Khanna's character went to a hospital for diagnosis and this doctor checked his puklse, his heartbeat, his temperature and then said: 'I'm afraid he has a very serious illness - he's got schizophrenia.'

Yes Rapid writer, I spend hrs in the water. Thinking for me is over rated, my mind can only understand and percieve so much. This limits ones experiances. I cannot speak for anyone but myself of course.

Dropping the mind and learning to experiance with soul has been a fullfilling adventure for me.

In my other life as a psychotherapist, we work very hard on trying to get to a space where we can do as you said: drop the thinking and experience. Fellow analysts call it 'Just being'. It's great to be able to do it.

I am your fan, so don't understand why I didn't get this hub, maybe I joined after you had already  published it. :)

Anyway, in answer to your question, yes, I have experienced the supernatural all of my life. From seeing spirits who would tell me how they passed away, to receiving messages from a higher part of me, could be a guide, that gave me direction and even names...   My spiritual experiences has become much more clear, for lack of a better word, nowadays, as my mind is very calm and I experience a day to day peace. When the mind steps aside, and as you said, we are  "just being, we transcend the limitations of our 5 senses. Life becomes a deeper experience and our awareness increases.

Hello Violetsun - I'm your fan, too and I adore your hubs. They are so moving.

In answer to your question, we joined around the same time and I published this hub on my first day - that explians why you didn't hear about it, I guess.

Thanks so much for more of your clear and interesting insights.

I do believe in the supernatural, but I believe it is just the natural, and we block it out because it doesn't fit the consensus view on "reality." Anyone can access the supernatural just by being open to it.

I signed up as a fan and didn't get this hub either! Great hub! Keep writing!

I have had too many experiences with spirits not to believe. I also think that when the bible says God created man in his own image, it is referring to a person's soul rather than their physical being.

"I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do, I do believe in spooks"-Cowardly Lion from Wizard of OZ

Sorry, just couldn't resist. But on a more serious note, I absolutely believe in spirits. I believe we exsisted as spirits before we became mortal, and we will have a time as spirits when we die before we are resurrected. Absolutely! I also believe that for some people the "veil" between the two worlds is very thin and that they have experiences that others do not have. I know that if there is a purpose for the visit from the spirit, if by the will of the Lord, they will come. I actually believe in the Holy Ghost, as one of the members of the Godhead, yep, he is a spirit. I believe that everyone has the ability to feel his influence each day of their life. I have continually felt his direction daily. I am sometimes to proud to submit to his promptings but they are there. I also believe that the world is far to "noisey" to hear the promptings at times. We need to turn off the TV and radio, and just ponder once in a while, I am sure that is why coolbreeze enjoys his surf time so much. Find a place to get off by yourself in a quiet place and just listen. Yes, I do believe in the supernatural.

Wow, your hub brought up some excellent points - short and sweet, and look at all the responses - it was just as interesting reading the comments as it was your hub!

In my experience there are "unseen" beings around us all the time - superimposed over our world and existence.

Thanks for a great hub!~

I very much believe in Ghosts. I live in a very haunted house. We see three ghosts all the time. A young girl , a woman about 30 and a old woman of 70 or more. I just saw the woman of about 30 a hour or so ago. I and my girlfriend see them all the time. Our house is also very near a graveyard and some strange things go on there also.

You need to keep in mind some people can see ghosts all the time and some people can't.

Thanks for your facinating post, Carzyhorsesghost - I'm really interested to know more. I lived in a house until last year where there were many 'presences'. I only saw them occasionally - but I often felt them around me. You're right, some are aware of them and some aren't. Do you think it's something to do with keeping certain mental portals receptive?
