Freida Pinto is the hot new actress known for her role as Latika in her debut film Slumdog Millionaire. Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of a young man from the slums of Mumbai. He appears on a game show, exceeds people's expectations and arouses the suspicions of the game show host and of law enforcement officials. In the movie, Pinto is the girl with whom Jamal, who was played by Dev Patel, is in love.

The movie has won numerous awards and is the big favorite to win the Oscar for Best Picture at the Academy Awards on February 22, 2009.

Pinto was born in Mumbai, India to a mother who is a Principal of a high school and a father who is a bank branch manager. Pinto is only 24 years old and is a little known actress. She has appeared in numerous commercials such as Wrigley's Chewing Gum, Airtel, Hutch, and De Beers. She also modeled and appeared on numerous runway shows, She auditioned against 300 other women for the part in Slumdog Millionaire. Freida also anchored the international travel show, Full Circle on Zee International Asia Pacific in English between 2006-07.

It will be interesting to see if the high amount of exposure that Pinto has received due to Slumdog Millionaire will propel her into stardom.
